Hi All a bit of an odd question,i am visiting the UK in a few weeks and would dearly love to visit my grandparents resting place problem is i dont know where it is,Mum has passed away and she was an only child and because we migrated to Australia in the 60s when i was a small child i didn't know them. I was wondering if there is some sort of register of graves,i dont have a lot of information about them i only have an approximate date of death i do however know their DOB i know my grandfather middle name but not my grandmothers and only a vague idea of where they lived, any ideas where to find out where they ended up Rob
Hi Snotty yes i have tried a few online searches but they rely on someone logging the information,ancestry.com found part of the family tree but no death records unfortunately, but thanks for your response Rob
I’m pretty sure there’s a Government central database of burial’s and cremation Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
@robmich any good? https://www.deceasedonline.com/serv...iew=Content§ion=MAINHELP&context=ABOUTDOL
https://www.findagrave.com https://billiongraves.com Really need to try and research a bit on Ancestry to determine something more concrete regarding definate connections to you, and the location where the person lived. For instance if you search for a grave with just a name, there could be several results with the same name, in several different places.
the last place i know they lived was a place called Thoresby which i believe is in Nottinghamshire prior to that they lived in Hull thats where my mother was born in the 30s iv tried quite a few web based searches without any luck Rob
i have tried to find a match for both my grandmother and my grandfather they died within a couple of months of each other its like they never existed i made the search quite wide and there is nothing that is even close Rob
Try joining a facebook group somethink like " you know when you live in Thorosby" theres always someone on such groups that are local historians and thrive off helping people be located. I got an almost instant reply when i was looking for someones relative . Worth a go
Yes Thoresby is in Notts, an old mining village / area (Thoresby Colliery) and also Thoresby Hall which is now a leisure hotel. As Sproggy suggests a local historian may be able to help, something like Mansfield and District would be a starting point (or Edwinstowe as it is also close by).
Births, Marriages, Deaths (BMD) are usually registered in a district which may well be Mansfield, Nottinghamshire for Thoresby. I would think The National Archive at Kew, London would also have the records. I have used the familysearch.org website when doing my own family history. You could do free search on there if you have names. Findmypast is another site but there are many others with access to the BMD records online. Finding a burial record or actual grave could be challenging as death records would not show details of a cremation or burial or the location. Local authorities and church parishes do keep these records. It is possible your ancestors were buried in Thoresby village, worth a try. Doing my own family history I discovered my ancestors were buried in a variety of places and often husband and wife were buried in different cemeteries. Maybe if you would give the name or names you are researching, we could help in your search.
Hi mgbman births deaths and marriages wont tell me were they were laid to rest i will pm you their names and DOB any help would be greatly appreciated rob
Thank you. I am helping with the family history search and the Hull connection has turned up with Melton on a death record.
