WANTED Good cheapish family car

Discussion in 'Non Late Bay Classifieds' started by tommygoldy, Jan 24, 2016.

  1. I need a new daily driver. My MK2 golf has been brilliant but it's 26 years old and with two kids I could do with something bigger and more modern/sightly newer.

So I'm looking for a nice family-sized car in good condition. My wife has a strong preference for automatic gearboxes and I like them too so that's pretty much a must have... Also we're not a fan of diesels. Budget is up to £2000 but I'm happy to pay as little as possible. Beyond that I'm open minded, although I'd probably prefer something of German or Japanese origin (possibly Swedish) and a (large) hatchback or estate would be handy.

    Anyone got any leads?

  2. Personally I'd go for the 1.9 Pd diesel VW or Audi estate

  3. No diesels. They're antisocial in a city. Also we're not doing loads of miles so MPG is not a big deal.

Appreciate the recommendation though. I'm sure they're good engines.

I'd get a Subaru Legacy estate then you can use the engine in your bus when you've finished with the car :)

  5. I do quite fancy a Legacy. Or a Forester. Any Subaru in fact.

  6. Less polluting than a 26 year old golf ......

    The 1.8 petrol A4 ?

  8. I'm ideally looking for an actual car... recommendations welcome but to be honest I'm not short of ideas.

The main thing is I'm looking for something that's been well looked after.
