For no good reason we are going veggie for February. This includes Winter Camp, at which we usually knock up a communal pot of food - chilli, curry etc.

What veggie recipe alternatives would you serve to non veggie attendees?
  2. That's easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy!!!

    Chick pea dahl

    2 medium onions
    2 cloves of garlic
    thumb size piece of ginger
    tsp cumin
    tsp groung coriander
    tsp garam masala
    tbs curry paste
    2oz red lentils
    3/4 pint of stock
    tin of chopped toms
    tin of coconut milk
    tin of chick peas
    juice of a lemon
    salt and pepper
chilli to taste (red or green)

Chop your onions, garlic and ginger and soften for five mins. Add your spices and paste - cook for a minute. Stir in your lentils, then add your toms and stock and let it cook for ten mins with the lid on. Pour in the coconut milk, stir it, put the lid back on and leave for another ten mins. Put your chick peas in, add a pinch of salt and pepper and as much chilli as you think you can handle and Bobs your uncle!!!
  3. my mum is a veggie and apparently does a awesome lasagne! (i don't like lasagne) but probably not very easy to do for a lot of people though!
  4. Vegi chilli is tops for camping, at least we won't be the only freaks at winter camp :)
  5. Forgot to mention squeezing your lemon in to it at the end!!! ::)

Thanks LMPD but Mrs H doesn'y like chick peas - pain in the arse.

What recipe do you have for veggie chilli?
  7. well i wouldn't try swapping mince for vege mince or quorn or soya i'd just stick to vegetables and kidney beans ( does mrs horts like those?) i've had some very dry vege chilli in the past because vege mince is not as soggy as real mince.

  9. I do quorn mince dishes quite regularly and they turn out fine. Been served some elsewhere that were like minced rubber. I woiuld have thought it was an easy dish to do for the masses. Possibly always needs a little more liquid than you think.
  12. 6-7 pounds, German dark malt extract syrup
    1 pound, crystal malt
    1/2 pound, chocolate malt
1-2 cups, brown sugar (just guessing)
    1 ounce, Hallertaur hops (boiling)
    1/2 ounce, Goldings hops (finishing)
    lager yeast .

the start of your post includes the words "for no good reason we are going veggie" that is where i turned off. there is no good reason to go veggie, if animals didnt want to be eaten why do they taste of meat? (runs and hides taking big wooden spoon with him)

  16. Just make a lot using the recipe i posted and no one will notice :)
  17. One pot veggie recipes only differ in spices and herbs, pretty much the same ingredients throughout everything else.
  18. mark and i went sort of veggie about six weeks ago one to see if we could two to save money. have to say ive not missed meat have been using quorn and its worked fine for us, kids have noticed the difference and weve saved money so mission acomplished, we are only sort of veggie as we eat meat when we go out for dinner just not buying it.
