  3. Viking people- question re gas bottle in the engine bay. I've read it was a standard thing but it really doesn't feel right, has anyone else moved it?

    Hi @t0ria,
funny I was just having that discussion with the garage the other day. That is where it's meant to go, I've got the pipes and connectors from where the bottle goes to the cooker and the fridge. We've decided that we are going to put a leisure battery in that place instead and put the gas bottle in the cupboard next to the sink. That's the plan at the moment, once we've got going i'll put up some pics.

  5. Cheers that'll be great, the one I've just bought has no cooker at the mo and I don't think the fridge works but I'm not sure so I need to get all that looked at. Also I'm going to have to learn about leisure batteries- I have a rickety prototype bay with no such luxuries and my viking is going to be a renter so has to work!

Hi @t0ria sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you, we got the bus back just before Christmas and it's been a little bit busy since then! You may well have got this sorted but just in case i've attached pics what we have done with our gas bottle. It's in the corner cupboard with a regulator tap on that sends it one way to the fridge and then the other way out to the cooker, theres another switch on the outside of the cooker so you don't have to leave the pipe connected if you are using the fridge. Also put a picture of where the leisure battery has been put. Cheers Dave

  7. @Marzydj ,been reading the section on gas regulations on here and I think it has confirmed my worries about our set up with our bottle.Like yours the PO had the leisure battery put in the engine bay and the gas bottle is behind the cupboard you have put yours in which looks like a good idea. Can I just ask though is it vented ? The husband thinks I'm worrying over nothing but I'm not sure.

Hi @bigrhonda, there is a vent out of the side the van for the fridge but the cupboard where the gas bottle is hasn't got a vent. To be honest I probably won't use the gas for the fridge so will keep the valve switched of unless we are cooking.

  9. WHEY HEY, VIKINGS ROCK!
We had a scruffy '72 bay with a RnR and cab hammock, but massive quotes for bodywork, an expanding family and a wife who likes to shop found us with a lovely sage green '79 Super Viking a couple of years ago, and its amazing
We have dropped it 4" so it looks a lot less cumbersome and now fits under motorway bridges and with new shocks it goes round corners too!. we get a lot of roof envy from our mates with inferior Westies and Devons :)
Our gas bottle was in the engine bay when we got it but i have fitted a leisure battery and put a slightly smaller bottle under the offside rear seat and its been fine there is enough gaps and holes in an old VW that i don't think we'll have a problem. that said, we do have a carbon monoxide detector.
I will put some pics up later but if anyone was at Brighton Breeze this year our van is in the program next to our mates Riveria, (before we lowered it)

  11. Here's a couple of pics of ours: the first was at the start of the Santa Run which I organised in December we started from the main arena at Beaulieu motor museam and Lord Montague started us off. we had 40 vans and beetles with over 300 gifts and about £400 cash to give to the Piam Brown unit at Southampton General hospital which cares for kids from birth to eighteen with cancer
The bottom is a some of our vans at Milford on Sea a couple of months ago image.jpg image.jpg

  14. Welcome to a fellow Viking owner @roach .We are quite new to the world of Vikings only got her at the start of this summer but already she has brought much joy.Looking at your picture above it looks like someone has found a comfy place to sleep!

  15. Came across this press release for Vikings when they were apparently having a fight with VW because they were an unauthorised conversion ,which made me chuckle -
"The Viking invaders have arrived. The biggest battle in motor caravan history has begun. It will be hard. It will be long. And you are a witness. Viking Motorhomes on one side; Devon and Westfalia on the other. David and Goliath all over again. You were born to be free. Your freedom gives you the right to choose. Before you buy, insist on seeing a Viking. We'll send a Viking to your door. If you're sure it's what you want we'll build one just for you. One more Viking on our side. One more blow for freedom."
Love it .:) Bit brave heart though.

  20. Hi fellow viking-ers. Can anyone help me out with a picture of how the cushions are laid out to make the bed? I have 12 cushions, is that normal? I suspect some have been changed over the years. No matter how hard I try I can't make them into a square bed. It's like something off the Krypton Factor!
