I think you've simply lost your instrument cluster earth. Either the cluster end or the one on multi-spade connector that hides near the top of the totem pole.

Same effect when you loose a rear light cluster earth and the sidelights flash with the the indicators.

  5. Just unscrew the knob (maybe), then unscrew the collar.

  6. Nice one I'll look for the instrument cluster earth before attempting anything with the switch.

I found the multi spade totem pole earths before and checked they were all on OK

  7. But take the negative off the battery before moving the switch.. it's always live..

  8. Sounds easy, but there appears to be shed loads of wiring up there

  9. I will do. Thanks

There’s no wires near mine. The loom runs across the front panel. I have RHD though not sure about you.

  12. Just don't loose them.. they're 'reassuringly expensive' for a little bit of rubbery plastic on a metal stick!

  13. For futuer reference, anyone know how to get these off on a cross-over? I tried when I fitted my rev counter but couldn't remove the knobs and so couldn't remove the pod. I ended up doing it carefully with the pod loose enough to give me access and nearly cutting my hands to shreds in the process. Thanks.

Edit: Is mine the same as @Deefer66 's photos, thanks?

I think the cross-over uses the same system as the early. Plastic plugs in round holes and/or metal spring clips that slide in along side the levers. If the plastic plugs are absent in the holes, just pull the lever really hard and it will come out.

  16. Thanks, I'll have another look as this bugged me and I was loathe to exert too much force for fear of an expensive mistake.

  17. Thanks photos downloaded for reference:)

  18. Yours may be early with little plastic plugs, that stop you pulling the levers out without removing the plugs first.

@Deefer66 & myself are crossover/ early late bays, heater levers pull straight out

If your instrument panel is removed please can you take a couple of photos for me please.

Photo of the wires going to the 'lighting switch' please. The silver 'box' behind the pull out knob that turns on side and head lights.

    Also

Can you do me a photo of behind your main instrument panel that shows the wires going to fuel gauge, G & oil lights, indicators etc.

No worries if the instrument panel is back in
