Front seat repair

Discussion in 'Camper Conversions' started by Kerrin Wells, Jun 21, 2017.

  1. Hi all.
My 1979 T2 has wonderful black and silver front seats that have been recovered to a good standard.

Unfortunately while driving along yesterday I felt the sinking feeling of the seat base diaphragm giving way and my rear falling through the seat base.
Is it possible to get new seat base webbing or a replacement seat diaphragm? I can't find anything on the usual websites!

    Thank you.

It'll be a broken spring surely?
Need pics of underside of your seat!

  3. It's a big rubber pad I think. I'm not sure what the seats are out of they look correct but have headrests and a tip mechanism. I'll get a photo tomorrow. It's thunder and lightning outside and I don't fancy it just now.

Underneath. Basically the big rubber pad is mullered.
Are the seats the correct ones? And anyone suggest a repair option.
    Cheers

  6. Ahhh ok, that makes sense why I can't find repair kits. I'll see if I can find a manufacturer plate, the whole interior is matching so it's all been recovered together.

  7. Turns out they are Jaguar XJS seats. It looks like I can get new diaphragms, but may not be cheap....

If they were originals the broken spring would be likely. Some of which can be replaced with modern Z springs and others can be welded...
