Fridge draining battery

  1. Hi - good to be back

If I run my 2-way fridge on 12V while driving, it seems to run down the main (vehicle) battery. A couple of times now I've stopped for petrol and been unable to turn the engine over on the battery afterwards. The dash lights all come on, but there's not enough juice to start it. The fridge is correctly connected into the leisure battery circuit.

I can get started using the leisure battery, but I'd like to be able to use the fridge on 12V without this happening. Is my main battery on the way out?

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

Yes it does sound like your main battery is on it's way to battery heaven. If it runs of the leisure circuit then it should not affect the main batteries performance.

  3. ^^^ whs

If it's all correctly connected up to the leisure battery you shouldn't have a problem with the main battery

Either your main battery is dying or you could have a faulty split relay that takes the power from the main battery when the leisure goes flat???

  4. Thanks for the replies -

I'll try replacing the main battery - it's been in since I got the van, so not surprising really

    Cheers

  5. I'd also check your fridge relay. Don't know your model but there are two separate systems on my Westy.

Mine came with the wiring to run the fridge off the main battery and wasn't originally supplied with a leisure battery. It only works with the engine running but there's a relay built into the fridge which takes power from the main fuse box.

I've since fitted an LB but it doesn't provide power for the fridge.
