I "liked" your post but please don't think it means that I "like" electrical stimulation to the nether region or approve of domination or bondage.

Tricky thing this "like" button, not too sure I understand it fully.

  2. You would have to make sure the tweeters have a built in crossover (resistor) to filter out any frequency too low for the speaker.

Brilliant help thanks, so I'm looking for a tweeter with a built in crossover. A googling we will go...

Oh, now I'm even more confused. I like that post but I don't think it was amusing, I believe it was more more informative in intent. If I "like" it that might upset you if you think I think it was amusing. :(

best thing is to just unlike it if you're feeling confused.

  8. To be honest, most will have a built in crossover - cheap and cheerful ones probably won't.
Look for Kenwood, Pioneer and the such like - all will (should) have them built in.

If you need a hand, just shout.

  9. Capacitor, not resistor.

Thanks I'm about to order these?

I'm not going to do it online, I'll phone in the morning and make sure they actually have them in stock before I order.

  11. Have you thought about fitting an amplifier to boost the speakers you allready have bob?

  12. A tweeter only up front will sound carp.

Mid range in the doors or kick panels with tweeters in the dash would work better. Lower frequencies are omnidirectional and you would still get the sound. Having the tweeters in the dash pointing towards you will lift the soundstage and make it sound much better

  13. They are the cheaper end of the market but should be ok.
Ask the question regarding the crossover.

Car Audio Security are a pretty good dealer. Used to deal with the head office a fair bit.

Would definitely ask about a full range speaker over just a tweeter.

It crossed my mind but to be honest it's a noisy old van so I'm not sure it's worth going all out. I'm just after a bit better sound while I'm driving.

  15. If you go for components (separate speakers) then keep them close together but direct the tweeters towards the drivers head - mids and highs should be close proximity.

I've got some acceptable 6x 9 ones in the bed panel and I'm hoping that fitting the speakers in the vents will bounce the sound off the door windows and back to us in the cab and just make the sounds a little bit better.

  17. What do you have currently?

Thanks, I'll ask about the crossover. And thanks for your advice.

Ummmmmmm! Dunno. It might be Panasonic (or it might not) it plays CD's and the radio and it has a lead for the iPod.

  20. If you want to try some tweeters to see how it sounds I have some in the garage I think. They are from a set if components but the MIDs are knackered. Pretty big crossover but would be free to try and see how it sounds?
