I can see that not working out; look out for fireworks between Stroll Snr and Alonso

  2. So, good race at monza.. such a shame they finished under the safety car - robbed us of a chance to see max and charles fight it out. Although i suspect Max totally had it in the bag whatever.

Interesting, following the safety car rules correctly (all unlapped cars must be allowed through) meant that the finishing order was as per the start of the SC. Had the rules been applied that way at Abu Dhabi last year we'd have had lewis as 8 times world champ. grrr..

Maybe theres a need for a rule revision; i think they should apply the SC/unlapping rules as they are UNLESS its in the last 10 laps of the race, in which case keep the running order and get the SC back in as soon as possible to give the best chance of finishing the race under racing conditions. ?

Well, it’s podcast Monday so I’ve heard a couple of opinions on this.

My preference would be that if the SC comes out with 10 laps or 1/5th race distance to go then they set themselves up for a red flag / restart. Whether this includes servicing the vehicles or not would be TBC…

  4. So effectively Lewis Hamilton did win the world championship last year. I dont like Verstappen but he is bloody good (in a fast car--- well that was always the reason Lewis won wasnt it???)

  5. looks like fia investigation in to 2021 budget cap stuff will be announced on monday - potential for a retrospective impact on max's first title?

  6. Amazing how they are going to wait until Max has won this year before the announcement lol.

  7. I can't imagine it will impinge on Max's title, any penalty will almost certainly be along the lines of the team losing their Constructors Championship points.

I think this is probably the likely outcome but drivers points deduction is one of many penalties that could be applied.

I suspect as many would think it good karma if Max and Perez were deducted 10 points there are as many who would think that's manipulating last seasons outcome! It's probably the reason it's taking so long to announce - they'll probably deduct a few points, impose a fine, reduce the next years budget and reduce wind tunnel time but none of that will affect the outcome of last years championship.

If there was appetite for looking back Max would have already lost last years title?

Maybe… I feel that the delays might be a measure of how they feel the decision will go down. The cynical suggestion is wait until max has wrapped this championship up and then per on his chips!

Ah well, he'd still be a champ. Can't stand the chap myself but he is good at driving fast.

  12. It's become a sad fact that championships and I suppose the whole series is based on hype and promotion rather than true racing with multi-millionaire drivers who are painfully pc .
It's racing but there are certainly better championships out there ...

Anyone else suspicious that the apparent under fuelling aborted qualifying was a setup so Max can win the championship in Japan and make Honda happy?

    Yep!

Especially as the car isn’t branded with Honda with the exception of this weekend

Que engine self implosion on lap 38

  15. But to be confirmed champion he has to win with the fastest lap unless Leclerc implodes again and there will be others ie Mercedes’ that will pit to take the fastest lap off him I would think.

Well, looks like Alonso fancies ruining the Red Bull party! Fastest in FP1

I haven’t read the report but suspect wet weather has something to do with that

  17. George fasted in FP2, Lewis second, was damp though
