  2. Terrible. Speaking to someone at work who lives in Donny part of the village with newly built houses has escaped the floods due to improved flood defenses being built. Leaving the rest to suffer the floods. It seems these disasters are becoming more frequent and more money needs to be spent on defenses. So many left in dire straits with insurance companies not paying out because of clauses in the small print

  4. It is sad I listened to an interview with a local Farmer who put the blame squarely at He feet of the River authorities for lack of dredging, sounds like the Somerset levels all over again

It's really bad for the folk that buy these places but sometimes we have to question where we build.
A development a few miles from us was built on marsh land and people couldn't understand why they sometimes flooded.
Herons Reach as a road name is maybe a bit of a giveaway.

Wasn't all that stuff privatised so as to get the level of investment these things needed?

Another thought, have the new homes contributed to the rest of the village being flooded?

We have two fairly new housing complexes built in the last decade or so here... Rivers Reach, and Waters Edge...I can imagine, in the grand scheme of things, it’s only a matter of time...

  14. Dredging is rarely the answer on a river the size of R. Don. Dig a metre of silt off the bottom and the water level is just the same, especially at Fishlake where the tide comes in.
