Fitting MGF Seats

Discussion in 'Camper Conversions' started by Colin, Nov 25, 2013.

  1. Here's what i did with the inside rear bracket to fit the wheel arch. First one shows after cutting off the bracket and opening out the hole to make a slot. Second one shows the hex headed bolt that has been slid into the slot and tightened up with a nut - the slot makes it easier to fit the bolt in and a hex head means that it is easy to put in the allen key rather than fiddle with an open ended spanner - the nut holding it brings it level with the other brackets - (add extra washers if necessary) the bolt then goes through a hole in the arch tub and a nut and large spreader washer holds it under IMG_7901c.jpg IMG_7907c.jpg neath

Yeah I only cut off the u shaped thing then I drilled a 10mm hole through the end for an M10 to fit. The rest was simple. I love the fact that I can adjust them so easy.

  4. I know this is and old thread but does anyone still have that pdf?

I currently have a set of MGF seats at the upholsterers and plan to fit in a week or two.

    Thanks in advance.

  5. personally I would have fitted them first, check out how high they sit etc then only fork out for retrim once I knew they were going to work.

You don't really need a PDF of the old Camper & Bus article, just grind off all the unnecessary bits on the runners as shown in the earlier pics and bolt the seats in, removing the existing runners obviously. It would have been better to trail fit the seats before recovering, now you'll need to be very careful not to damage the new covers.

  8. A few queries folks:

Do you remove the cross bar from the MGF seats?

My van is currently in the garage so can't check but assuming assuming its necessary to remove the existing VW runners both sides, I understand these are spot welded, so it's a case of drilling out?

Am I correct in saying the notch needs to be made on the REAR not the front of the MGF runner?

    Yes.
    Yes.
I didn't notch the seat runners at all, I bolted through the existing holes, nuts on top. It's a bit of a fiddle to hold the nuts but it's easy to turn the bolts from underneath.

  11. Thanks so much to everyone that's replied, it's really helpful.

I've had brackets welded to the MGF seats to add arm rests, I'll post a picture of them in place once complete.

Seats fitted, the difference in comfort is chalk and cheese, the arm rests are a game changer.

Touring the Northern Ireland coast soon so looking forward to giving them a proper test over a longer run.
