Fitting MGF Seats

Discussion in 'Camper Conversions' started by Colin, Nov 25, 2013.

  1. How tall are you guys who have the mg seats? My missus is only 5ft and she might not reach the pedals :)

  2. I'm only 5'8" with short legs and the pedals are OK.

  3. Not sure how similar the ZS seats are to the MGF - but I didn't need to cut off all the brackets - just the inner rear one. I then utilised the other 3 brackets. Let me know if you need more info.

  4. I'm thinking of doing this mod , would be grateful of the magazine pdf if you have it
    Thanks

  5. I have it.
    Will PM you.

  6. FWIW I ground off all the unwanted extra bits from the sliders, so they were completely flat and so could mount directly onto the wheel tubs. The U-shaped outer bits on the runners next to the adjusting levers come off quite easily if you drill or grind the rivets out. I kept those, and one is now in use as a very-strong back plate for the rock-and-roll seat belt buckle mounts (Betty is a van conversion, so no seat belt mounts originally).

When positioning the runners on the van, check that they're parallel and that the ends are square so that the adjuster teeth fit into the holes in each side at the same point. I mounted both seats parallel to the edge of the walk-through.

I used existing holes (square) in the runners for the bolts, a little bit of grinding with a Dremel needed to get the heads in at the back ends. The front ends I could fiddle the bolts in diagonally before fitting, and an allen key fits fine to hold the bolt while the nut is tightened underneath.

I didn't worry too much about the strength of the bolts that mount the seat, as in any crash the seat belt would take the strain of the heavy human body. But sensible bolts with big washers should be pretty strong anyway.

  9. Having a look on ebay, there are not currently many Mgf seats - are there any other of the MG family that would work the same?

  16. I didn't use the method in the magazine - it involved cutting all 4 brackets off of each seat and removing the cross bar too. I found that just cutting off the inside rear bracket and opening the hole out as a slot and then straightening the other brackets so that they were level was good enough to fit the seat - I would guess that the brackets do make the seat a little higher.
