  1. morning

wanting to get to check my fuel lines on my crossover bay and am trying to get the firewall out- have removed six screws from sides and two from below

im trying to lever it up and it`s shifting a bit but not enough to get it out. do i just really need to give it heavy duty levering or am i missing something???

    thanks

  2. I took mine out the other week and it was a bit of a pig, but it did come out, the key thing is that you got the screws out from the bottom, if you can double check that there arnt anymore screws underneath, i think i read somwhere that someone had to remove 4 from the underside, but that may have been a one off.

  3. thanks Major

yup i`ve just discovered that on the earlier bays they have four screws from underneath.

this a complete disaster for me as I have the later middle gearbox support added to mine which means to get to these two screws I would have to take out the engine and gearbox and then the support to access them!! :'( :'(

only thing i can think to do is somehow get a drill in (access is a mare)and make holes through the mount to then get a screwdriver in at a funny angle and hope they aren`t too rusty!! :-

  4. cheers pkrboo

yeah your right normally you should be able to get to all four screws underneath but as my bus is modified and has a later gearbox middle mount and running a beetle gearbox it was a bit different!

Just spent four hours drilling and filing just to clear metal away to access two of these screws! Had to bend cut and weld screwdrivers to get them into the right position aswell and very slowly and painfully remove them (probably would have been quicker to drop the engine and lower the gearbox!!!)

at least it`s done now and I`ve got access to some nice rotten pipes inside ;)

  5. Well done Pabloz! Glad you've got it sorted :)
