Nice bus that! Looks like the body work is excellent. Not a rot box! What engine is is? 1600? They are fair easy to work on yourself. Best to learn your way around it. I'm from malvern so pretty close. Separated by floods!
As you can see....it doesn't take long before some questions your judgement, someone takes the p*ss, a minor argument ensues, and strangers like me chip in from the wings.....it's very much the pattern on here. Welcome to the forum... The van looks excellent from the pics....you'll be glad you didn't get twitchy and buy the first bus -shaped object you came across. Don't hesitate to ask any questions that spring to mind....it's a veritable cess pit of information
I'm quite practical, I have a good awareness of the science of engines but never had a go at working in them. It hasn't be serviced in at least a year but was Mot'd last week. It runs ok but definitely needs a tune as it's running rich.
Rich is better than lean on these engines. Apparently! Idiots guide to get you through til it's serviced...... Lift engine lid. Sniff! Petrol? Not good. Check fuel lines. Cracks etc. clamps on pipes etc. Dip oil. Does it have any? Between the lines on the stick. Fan belt. Is it turning the generator? Not slipping or anything. Tin wear and foam surround. It is all there? You shouldn't be able to see the ground! All good? Get out in the dry before it rains and smile!
What he means is because it probably leaks like a sieve and the minute you put the wipers and lights on together it will drain the battery, over power the alternator and you'll end up stranded. First thing to check on ANY VW bus is that you've got plenty of gas for the cooker, tea bags, milk and that your phone battery is fully charged
Check the fuel lines. I've got a perfect one in the workshop and the new fuel lines are all loose and leaking - wrong size.
I bought the first van shaped thing. I'm awaiting the flood, fire and pestilence to begin. So far a unservicable rear light cluster is all i have suffered. But its currently up a hill in Whitby so fingers crossed.
