  1. Took all tinwear off and cleaned up, trying to source oil leak. Impressed that engine was rebuilt 6/7 years ago probably done 20k miles and still looks quite fresh. Clutch was fitted when first got camper which is impressive.
Wrapped hx in exhaust bandage and silver foil and they are like new once removed silver foil tape.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

  2. All in epoxy primer, bought it home early part of week.

Today waxoiled inside all places accessible what a crap job to do, drained all fuel ready for tank out and gearbox removal.
Stripped from deformation panel of stonechip and underseal too. [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

  4. Removed fuel tank, CV joints and gearbox, replaced hockey stick bush and repaired old selector bushes.
Fuel sender still looks new after 10 years better than tank filter.
Will paint tank and gearbox soon.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

  5. Bare metalled gutters whilst at this stage overall no rust but rear corners need welding. Primed them for now still undecided on colour.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

    Fitted new hx cables.

  11. Trying to sort all rear wiring out, found what looks like old towbar connectors. Removed old alarm and electric hook up which ran behind side panels will rewire now tank is out. Found some spare wires from what was probably test socket traced one to front but have 2 others which appear to follow loom but can't see them other end under dash even on wiring diagrams.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

Blimey, you're keen! I just smoothed mine out a bit, roughed it all up then wet on wet with 2-pac high build and one top coat. You'll hardly see any of it so I put the effort into those small areas. 2-pac sticks like stuff to a whatnot.

  13. Whilst at this stage didn't want any more hidden gems but yeah agree won't see much of it.

My view changed over the years towards leaving the paint where I could because getting through the lower layers to bare metal was so difficult. When I considered that I concluded those layers were doing something very good so I tried to leave them doing their thing. I often but not always came across a dark green initial coat that was thin, but like rock!

  17. is this an advert for above amateur bodywork? I'm sure you had fun, but at at no point have you addressed the fundamental point of steel. It wants to return to it's powdery form. It's our job to prevent that. Salt/air/water are a heady mix for decomposition. How have you made steps for your vw to not be eaten by nature?

  18. It'd be great to get a guesstimate of how much that 'renovation' cost the guy/girl. I suspect you aren't so keen to share that info as much as the photographs.

Welcome to the forum... perhaps starting an 'Introduce yourself' thread and sticking up a few photos of your new van would be a good start? I see in another thread you have a fuel smell issue... if you'd like some help, possibly not being a tad 'rude' about someone else's project would be the way to go? We're a friendly and knowledgable bunch, so I'm sure you'll get the answers you need to help you in your aircooled VW journey?
