  1. Hi all from a small town called Langholm north of Carlisle

I've been lurking here for a while and should introduce myself, me and the wife bought a 74 bay back in 2010 and I knew it was a bit rough under the skin and we should have walked away but we bought it. We used it for a year and I decided to sort it bit over the winter, 8 years later now with 2 kids and a different house and its still in bits....

So far I've repaired the front wheel tubs tops and backs,
    Cab floor,
    A pillars,
    B pillars,
    Inner front valance,
    Front cross member,
    Front jacking points,

    Still to do,
    Both sills
All the doors need repaired, the cab doors are really bad.
    Front arches
    Rear arches
    Rear jacking points and outriggers
Most of the metal work round the engine is rotten
    Gutters
    Front panel
    And on and on o_O
Oh and the engine is completely knackered.

So I'm here for inspiration and support as I'm sick of it lol.

    Gareth.

I'll get some photos on later, should be able to find a few before I started taking the rotten patches off the rotten patches.

Just had a conversation with my 7 year old girl - she's upset that she wont get a holiday in the van before she's 20!!

Hello and welcome from down in the depths of the New Forest.
There's been some epic restorations by folk on here, so I'm pretty sure you will get as much help as you can ever want and need.

  19. First trip out after we bought her, the viking roof give us loads of room as we're both quite tall but its not my favorite. We've put a new set of bellows on it since this photo as the windows were a nice deep shade of yellow (and split in places)

Front drivers side tub/arch after the thick black gunge was removed, followed by a rotten huge patch on top of a smaller rotten patch.

New metal in and primed for now to stop surface rust, the welds need dressed before the whole lot gets blasted and painted.

Hopefully the pics will show properly

  20. Not sure what to do with the engine yet, it was using a litre of oil every hundred miles and left a plume of blue smoke that the red arrows would be proud of! I've stripped it and unsurprisingly its mainly knackered, I think the only bits I can salvage are the crank case, flywheel, con rods, pushrods/rocker gear and heads (and they need some helicoils)

Its a type 4 1800 engine so the bits are all more expensive but its got (or should have) a huge 60 odd HP instead of the 40ish(?) of the 1.6

Options are rebuild the 1800 for ££££
fit a twinport 1600 and tune it for a bit more power for ££
Or sod it and fit a scooby engine
