We were in Whitstable on Friday but had to rush home as one of our dogs wasn't well.

The plan was to go back over the weekend, but the weather put us off.

Just back from a cracking, if a little cold, trip down to Kent.
After the horrendous gales on Sunday night the weather cleared up so we went on a little bimble around and decided to stop off in Deal for a look around.
It's an interesting little town with a rich history of smuggling and the narrow twisting lanes near the large open beach saw plenty of illicit tobacco, tea and spirits during the 17th and 18th century.









The beach is ok but I think the Deal council should get rid of all the pebbles and put some decent sand down.



Amongst the famous people born in Deal is this fella,



and he was born in this house on Middle Street



All you youngsters probably won't recognise his name but anyone who's seen the Carry On films will know him straightaway. The modern high street is boringly similar to almost every other high street in Britain nowadays so we only lingered here long enough for a coffee and a pastry.





By now we'd been cooped up in a tiny old van for about four days with more of the same to come so to clear the air and get all bickering and arguing out the way in one fell swoop I suggested that we went and had a flipping good shouting, swearing and throwing stuff row.
The guy inside said it wasn't that sort of rowing club so we went for a beer instead.
