Just noticed, my front indicators have 3 connectors, original Hella's USA bus. Whats the 2nd connection for dim / bright. Did they run sidelights down low? No wiring loom atm.
I think they had a dual filament bulb (flasher & sidelight) as they didnt have side lights in the headlights.
Sounds similar to the high-mount housings for later bays. One bulb filament is for the indicator, the other is for a front/side marker that comes on with the sidelights. 21W/4W dual-filament (same as brake/tail light bulb)?
Did NOT realise later lates had that as only see singles in lates. Does the side get turned off when indicating?
Sorry, I meant US-spec busses. The front indicator housings have a dual-filment bulb, together with a smaller (4W?) bulb off to the side. They don't have sidelights like European ones. The 4W filament of the big bulb and the extra little bulb light up as front and side markers respecively when the sidelight position's on (I think). The indicator filament flashes independently. They also had illuminated red rear sidemarkers. Like this famous bus - the front doors just had plain reflectors on them...
Put ‘em on, wire ‘em up - would look cool I’ve got US-spec indicator housings in my bus, and it lights up like a Christmas tree...
That's because you like doing wiring, as it's therapeutic, tho Snotts, not because it's a US Bus, right?
Totally agree with you that wiring is therapeutic. Will be looking into this side light/indicator arrangement as my next " What have you done to your bay today " post.
It is very soothing. My original housings fell to pieces (as they do). I got a set of NOS US ones from a bloke on the Samba. I even sniffed the boxes when they arrived. Mmm...
