Proper old school defenders too. I hated them, but admired them in equal amounts.

Newcastle united in the 70s was a fantastic place the atmosphere was unbelievable , I went there around 74 or 75, we lost 5-0, and to top it all our train got ambushed and smashed up on the way home

It was a horrible place to go really. They were nutters!

  10. No one quite beats Tommy Smith in my book, used to make whole teams tremble! I watched him from the kop against West Ham. He was hard!

Chopper Harris and Nobby Styles were pretty intimidating too.

The Leeds back line were legendary at intimidation. Reeney, Madeley, Charlton and Norman H.

I remember Joe Jordan and Gordon Mcqueen coming to UTD. Joe Jordan was taking some stick at West brom off John Wile for most of the game in a cup replay at the Hawthornes. In the end John Wile was carried off with a broken collar bone. Jordan got a booking.

Wasn't me honest !;) I went with my dad to St James's park in 1964 , they were playing Man U .
Itwas my first experience of live football
You just stood then , i was f freezing . I think Newcastle scored late on in the match and won .
    I was just a 7 year old lad .
