We went to the Moon way back in the sixties o_O this happened today and loads have crashed over the years, the Space Shuttle that kept exploding was only a low Earth orbital spacecraft, it only went up about 190 miles to 330 miles high, that's not a quarter of a million miles like it is to the moon  I can remember watching Steam trains running till about 68/69 o_O and Vw had just stopped making the Split, I'm not sure me sen

  3. Of course it's true. It was all over the telly

  4. Yes - I believe it - I did watch it "live" on TV back in the summer of '69. True the computing power of the guidance systems was smaller than your average smart phone and looking inside the capsule at the science museum it looked more antiquated than my late bay - and yes astronauts were killed back then - I remember the Gemini fire whilst it was still on the ground. The craft was tracked by the Jodrell Bank telescope and by the Russians - I don't think that they would have kept quiet if it was all a scam.

Apollo. A military mission to beat the Russians to the Moon. Also job creation scheme for hitech industry in deprived states.

The Space Shuttle . A committee designed fudge to keep the jobs created by Apollo going.

Orbital Sciences and SpaceX : Finally they got rid of the shuttle the Americans can get back to proper rocket science and blowing stuff up without killing people

I doubt the Russians would have let them get away with a scam for all this time, plus I want to believe it :)

  7. And all the excitement of the first Sputnik, no one could have imagined the attention generated by a very mundane set of bleeps....and then there was Laika and eventually Yuri Gagarin..... heady times:)

  12. I know they can - but the bean counters won't let them as all the money has been spent in Afghanistan and Iraq.

All they need is money! Money rules the world these days. They are talking about going to Mars but as governments are all broke with warfare it would need private money and they need a payback of some kind. Maybe VW would sponsor the first T2 to land on Mars!

  14. It was faked using alien technology from Roswell and the Bermuda Triangle. "Neil Armstrong" was actually the guy who really shot Kennedy and later went on to do the holograms that destroyed the Twin Towers.

    Don't believe everything you see...

Where else would we get nonstick frying pans if not space?

  17. I think you'll find the Bermuda Triangle is Completely Made Up. The US Coastguard and the IMO don't seem to think there's anything special about it, and they'd know. Does sell books, tho' ;)

They could, but it would be hideously expensive, and there wouldn't be much point. They cancelled the last few Apollos due to, really, lack of interest and stuff to do.

Watch "NASA: Triumph and Tragedy" on the YouTube. Really good progs as background to what I think is one of mankind's greatest achievements :)
