Hi, does anyone know which way round these bellows should be fitted. The Bentley Service Manual shows a picture with the long thin end pointing downwards.

However a photo I found on the internet, that I attach, shows the long thin end pointing upwards.

I have fitted it in the thin end pointing upwards orientation and it still leaks.

    Thanks

Sideways is definitely wrong :)...but this is a picture of mine pointing upwards like yours, so both of ours could be wrong! IMG_20200414_161900~2.jpg

Sorry I mean the Bentley picture has uploaded sideways! So you have to move your phone 90 degrees

So it looks as if yours is fitted like mine, with the long narrow end uppermost. I kind of hope this is wrong!

Must matter, as the two ends are different

  6. I dont think you'd get the thin end over the funnel shape of the oil filler... fat end down

  7. The Bentley pic deffo looks wrong. The Bentley manual is generally excellent but like any work containing a lot of technical info the odd mistake does creep in, theres a page on Ratwell detailing a number of them though it doesn't mention this one.

  8. It only fits one way and it’s pretty obvious.

  10. Odd that the Bentley pic is wrong, given that they likely took it from the VW's picture o_O

Definitely thin end up. A tiny pin hole can cause a big leak. I bought a brand new one from vwh and it had a split in it. I fasten them on with small cable ties

Aw well, looks like cable ties it is. Maybe a Harry Houdini manoeuvre with the engine in

  14. True but it only fits one way and that ain't it.

  15. Mine's deffo 'fat end down', and needs replacing as it's split. One more thing to add to the list of things to do![IMG]

Ok, consensus is fat end down. Looks like Bentley is wrong on this detail

  17. Do you all have the same problem with condoms o_O?

It’s not too bad. I remove the right hand lower tin between case and heat exchanger. Get some very thin cable ties. Long nose pliers to pull them tight.

    Don’t buy condoms from VWH
