I know putting diesel in a modern petrol engine is a no no and can damage the injectors and seals but what damage would a small amount do to our aircooled engines, say 40 ltrs of petrol and 5ltrs of diesel, I've not done this by the way

it'll smoke a bit but not a lot i wouldn't think - it's only the same as burning a bit of oil i'd run it and just keep diluting.

drain the tank out, empty the fuel lines and refill with clean petrol! Keep the remaining fuel and gradually water the diesel down and down some more. Gradually the diesel should be diluted down enough to burn the remnents off.

If it was the other way round, it would be a system flush!

petrol in a diesel as long as it ain't a great deal isn't that bad - i've done that too.

Its not mate but it'd be better diluted down as the petrol to diesel ratio would be less & as Ricky said it would smoke a bit till all the diesel is burnt away!

  9. so what about about say a litre bottle of Ribeana....and would the Tooth kind Ribeana be better ....just a thought....

my mate mechanic mate who's just drained it out of some numptys tank says he don't reckon it would hurt our engines if diluted some more, maybe smoke a touch but nowt else

i did this in my first bay years ago, i put £5 worth in when it was about £2 a gallon, i just topped it up with petrol and ran it to half a tank and then topped it up again and so on until i diluted it, Ricky is right it won't hurt.

Are you up for the numpty of the year award Woody

Got to dispose of it somehow. ;) It'll be fine - the chaps on our industrial estate do it all the time.
Some peeps, I believe I've read somewhere, deliberately add a bit of diesel to their petrol now and again for some obscure (possibly old wives tale) reason.

Petrol to diesel in my old wagon days - supposedly kept the diesel from freezing?

But what damage can it do if it's got too much diesel in it

years ago when diesel had no anti waxing agents in it we used to add either 5 litres of parrafin or 5 litres of petrol to it in the winter - could be connected to this idea?

    none,it will just smoke.

  20. Petrol in a diesel is bad as the high pressure fuel pump uses the fuel as a lubricant so your can really damage the pump,
Diesel in a modern petrol can cause some issues, the extra viscosity of the fuel mix.

Diesel in an old vw that can pretty much run on mashed corn cobs...
Should be OK... If not a little smoky
