Hey guys can anyone help am buying a pop top for my bay window it’s the Devon side to side lift it is 35mm height. My camper is in getting welding and it’s in a vice at min.I was looking to know what height the side lip of bus is to the ground.I am worried that with the roof on it will not get into garage.I have 85 inches to spare and there if was a problem I was thinking of putting coil overs on so I can adjust if needed is this a good idea
Not sure if I’m telling you how to suck eggs but I’ll do it anyway. When you’re measuring your garage door, don’t measure just the opening. Measure with the door open and measure the actual gap that’s available, then try and wiggle the door as well. On one site, someone had nearly an inch to spare but on a windy day, that wasn’t enough when it was being driven out and there was a little wiggle going on. Ramps and slopes can also add factors to your measuring. Ozziedog,,,,,,,,, Devon big top (Viking?)
No digging here 85 inches I have So for the camper to get in with pop top Will need coil overs down her 2 inches Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There is a coil over option to take it down 2-4 inches called EZ rider, but this works by taking out the torsion springs in the beam. The usual suspects will be along shortly to tell you why this is not a good idea.
The coil overs are generally used as an option to beef up your existing suspension and isn’t really gonna work well without your torsion bars. The shock towers also aren’t really man enough on their own. Some peeps can use coilovers to help raise it a little as well. Soounds like you’ve just hit the lowering territory to get in there. I’ve had a stock suspension and I’ve run two and a half inches or three and a half inches lowered on Transporter Haus spindles on the front with coil overs to stop the bottoming and a few splines on the back. I’ve now raised my lintel in the garage and extended my door in order to go back to stock. Yours is great because the door isn’t an up and over and hanging in the way. If I had to lower again, I think I’d go beam adjuster just for an inch or two or pay the man and get Graham over at Midland prototype bay to sort it for you. I know nothing of the EZ rider thingy though. Ozziedog,,,,,,,back to stock or a tad more for me
Sorry for the late reply. You could take the shocks right off and it wouldn't sit lower, there are 2 sets torsion springs inside the beam that provide the suspension and height. Similar setup at the rear. Shocks are primarily for damping. Adding coilover shocks would allow you to raise it which isn't what you want, but not lower it on their own. Lowering is a can of worms. It doesn't work for me because I regularly haul lots of weight around and also I like to hit speed bumps fast and have been known to try and get the wheels off the ground. The stock suspension is so good and rugged it's a shame not to. That's opinion based on having had a 2 1/2" lowered Westy and a 4 1/2" lowered tin top. If your Devon top is like mine they add very little height but the vent on top adds a chunk more if yours has one of those. Nice garage.
This is the pop top am going for Getting it from proud to pop Newcastle England It is 14 inches .the Viking is to big its 18 inches Most campers are 72 inches to the side rail So that brings me up to 86 inches Really need 1 1/2 off Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ah. The Devon double top. We're going to build a carport for ours, as it won't fit in our garage (and it's not practical to modify it). Luckily we have a bit of space next to the garage
