  1. Hi chaps,

So cracking on getting my van ready for paint and am just trying to workout what to do with my headlining, is there any one who does a headlining to fit a devon roofed van or am I best taking it to a professional trimmers? Im in the Hull area.

    Cheers
    David

  2. Find a local trimmer but not a vw specialist. They will be able to make you a headliner to fit without the vw scene tax added

  3. which Devon conversion do you have? The pop top headliner is simply a hardboard sheet covered in vinyl, slightly oversized, so it bends to fit...the aperture is trimmed as per, with a scrim foam and vinyl...if you can afford it get a local coachtrimmer to do it as AB suggests...if your handy and that way inclined, do it yourself. It's a rewarding job with no special tools required, other than a pack of decent blades and some cardboard for masking out any overspray from the glue. If i were about to do mine again, i'd remove the glass and trim round the windows a la microbus...it looks so much nicer ;D you could save a few quid by prepping it up before taking it to the trimmer...curtain rails removed etc...leave the old vinyl in though as s/he may want to use it for rough templates

  5. d'you stick pins in where you've been? ;D

  6. I mean the headlining in the car and around my pop top, want it all in one piece really.
    Cheers dave

  7. you'd struggle to do the whole thing in one piece. the cab headliner can be bought new or made up using the original struts...the rest can be done in a matching vinyl

  8. on my devon (kombi based) the cab had the original factory perforated vinyl liner and the rear section must have been made by devon out of the same type vinyl it laped over the factory liner above your head and was secured with a screwed down wooden strip and was fixed at the sides above the windows by varnished wooden strips (abit naff) and they made the liner bows out of wood it looked ok when in but not as good as factory microbus
