  1. Removing the lower B pillar and finding so much resin in the floor to arch/bulkhead transition.
Trying to remove the inner, middle and outer sill also but cannot do so by drilling spotwelds... they've done a fine job of spot welding and removing all trace of these so i cannot drill them out haha.. great...

Im now, lower b pillar removed, bulge panel inner arch removed and 2 inch of floor removed. #winning

  6. agreed... they "welded" an angle in, looks like a 5 yr old one it.. and then filled it heavily with resin to smooth the transition between floor and bulkhead. about 2 inches in both directions about an inch thick.
Just cut it all out and start afresh

  7. I've seen all sorts over the years. I had a T3/25 that had floor to body issues. No guessing how the p.o. got around that.

Previous owners have a lot to answer for

When we bought Gusbus, we went all round the bodywork with a magnet checking for filler. The magnet stuck ok...…

Well it would do, the filler had magnetic particles in it. Took bloody ages to restore all of his / his mates handywork :confused:

  9. When do we stop blaming previous owners, its a bit like government blaming the previous government after being in power for 5 years plus.
I have had Tilly for 10 years, is this time enough to absolve the PO for any repairs cock up and bodywork problems that may arise in the next 10 Years ;)

  10. But that's the way Practical Motorist used to tell you to do it when I started driving. I didn't know any better and certainly did a few bodges. Once on a Hillman Imp I pop rivetted new sills over the top of existing which were 1/3 rust. It was a hopeless repair, but ended up at a scrapyard after I'd done with it.

At least I learned what to avoid in future.

pop rivet repairs were still perfectly acceptable for MOT repairs when I started work

Brings back memories of pop riveting sills on a mk1 Escort and sloshing underseal on top :D

My 1st Imp had sills made of finest oak, covered with some sort of builders tape and underseal. Always passed the mot.

  18. A good solid cardboard finish there @leflipflop. I couldn't help noticing how beautiful your front axle looks now you've exposed it by removing that pesky bulkhead. Have you considered using a perspex instead of cardboard finish so you can still see it??

Also I admit to some of the worst repairs on my van being done by me when I was still learning the ropes and desperately trying to keep it on the road as it was my only vehicle and I ran my gardening business out of it.
Defo didn't put in the chicken wire or piece of aluminium pop riveted to a bit of ply for a step repair there though... so much effort seems to go into avoidance of welding!

    Fun times.

  19. I had considered perspex but felt it didnt offer as much thermal insulation as the cardboard does... Plus it seems that all the perspex has been bought out to manufacture screens for covid purposes...

Was hoping ti make the steel version today but ended going to play in the park with the kids haha
