I just need a nice set of old skool tracking gauges now... pain in the ass setting the tracking with a tape measure between the wheels
I made something similar but more simple before I got my guages. It went inside the wheels and you know the thread pitch so count the turns.
I made my old ones after seeing a photo of 60's vw dealers tracking gauge's they were listed as a special tool. they are just a bar that runs side to side sat of floor on 2x triangle with 2x arms that reach up and touch the wheel rims 1x side is threaded and adjustable to check track and other side is a fixed datum but can moves away to allow the tool to be fitted and unfitted to rim (imagine a van width g clamp touching rim edges) to use (1)put gauge against front of rim halfway up and set thread to measure (2) move tool out of front of van, slide tool under van and try it against rear edge of wheel halfway up rim, the the difference between the front and the rear is double the amount of track in or out. hard to explain but easy to use
that is a bargain dude the dunlop ago40's are about a grand new !!! I got a set of the new style one's with a laser rather than the periscope from busfest this year hadly been used had a cracked mirror £45
Finally got into my external hard drive so heres a picture overload. Not all are late bays, some are splitties or early bays.
1303 steering setup i think. In my opinion if you're going to all the trouble of fitting a steering rack you might as well fit a power steering rack with an electric pump like those fitted to peugeots and other boring cars.
Ayup that's underside of my split before it was painted and the shorted hybrid vauxhall/vw steering arms i made that i described to Howard
