Cutting a hatch to find the fuel sender.

  1. For eveyone that has found a problem with their fuel sender, but can't be bothered to remove the engine and fire wall to get at it.

I had this problem, so at the spur of the moment... Armed only with a drill, hacksaw blade. I cut a hole in the rear cargo bay.....

Dodgy, I know... And I have since seen better jobs, but I was in one of those moods, and couldn't wait to get at the sender.

The hole I made was dead center of the van.. My pictures may help you determine the spot..

Once the hole was cut... using a tiresome method of stitch drilling and hack-sawing I fixed in two supports to hold up the removed section.

I then used a thermal insulation (jaffa stuff) to bed the hatch down on to.

Replaced the lid and screwed into position, squeezing the insulation tight.

Replaced the westy mattress/load liner and know one is to know that you have a hatch and now a working fuel sender :)) :)) :))

Disclaimer :please be aware of danger when doing this.. I would advise you to remove the engine and fuel tank then cut the hatch...

That looks neater than the job the previous owner of my bus made but l can't grumble. If they hadn't done it, I would have had to :)
