I know you know what you're doing and wouldn't do this even if you were in a blinding hurry, sick to death of sanding buses and needed to move into it pronto like what I was, but... You can't flat high build with a DA sander. Well, you can, and it will be smooth and very fast, it will even look ok at a distance, but in certain lights . To be fair nobody seems to notice but me. Space heaters are an odd one because they heat the air which allows it to hold more moisture and also add that moisture as a by product of combustion. Having said that I used a propane one to heat my painty booth but what you (we) are trying to do is get the panels hot rather than the air, or both, but certainly the bus which is why the infra red panels are so widely used by small time hackers in less than ideal circumstances... like us. I'd run the propane until it was unbearably hot in there to get the van hotter, which took a long time if it was cold weather, hours. Then switch it off hoping the van was warm enough to ward off condensation. Seemed to work.
I don't really use the da at all mate only where I put the filler on crap all done by hand long block and a shorter one in hard areas allso a hand held block in a cross cross motion only Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
And... I should have said... You've come a long way this year, copious amounts of work and it's looking great. Can't wait to see it in paint and back together, sat on the grass with all the windows open!
Not gonna be in paint for a while yet matey hope for Xmas time but more like jan I'd say then the doors ect and bumpers and roof !! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Of course YOU don't, but I honestly did. I primed inside and out plus top coated inside in 6 hours. 2 days later DA flatted, masked up an painted the outside in another stint. The doors on the other hand I'd done properly previously and it shows...to me...if I look hard. All filler blocked like you, I just lost my rag at flatting stage after doing all the hard work. Normally flattimg was an enjoyable part of the process for me, I had a special (to me) favourite flatting stick.
How much filler have you used to get it ready.? Just interested. Theres no hidden concern like..... "when we were doing the Titanic, we used loads of filler and it all burst out of the empty bodged rivet holes and the ship sank"
3 litre tub mate this side but I skimmed the complete pannel and sanded it till metal came through also fibreglass filled the welded areas 1st for strength over half that is on the floor or in my hair ears car bed everywhere Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Always sounds like a lot of filler right, but most of it ends up in the floor. I’m looking forward to prepping the bug for paint next year. Should be a breeze compared to the huge flat bus panels! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Iv got another 3 tubs but other side mostly been fine sliding door had 1 primer coat so just the rear end and side rear pannel left Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Fitted another 4 led spot lights all round the bus allso 2 more strip lights so super bright in there now Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Iv got heaters for that Mick just to warm the pannels for painting ect Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Been banging in the hours this weekend and finally can say this is just 1 pass of 280 grit away from 1st of 3 coats of high build the sill press was shat but all seam lines look great now Now to smack some carling down my neck my fingers tips burn man Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
