i too have a knock, so have come here for inspiration! are you running with transporterhaus / T2D spindles? my knock has appeared in the 500 miles since fitting them, although i'm also on coilovers. think i'm going to regrease my beam and focus the grease on the steering pin. just out of interest, how much play woud there need to be in a tie rod ball joint to cause a noticeable knock?
Idea - Top ball joint snapped or hitting the side on its way to snapping as the wheel is moving back and forwards at the top and tilting noticeably inwards. It should do neither. It should go up and down. Quite possible if the ball joints are installed with the notches in their outsides not lined up with the marks on the suspension arms. They can hit the side of the slot they are meant to swivel along and can eventually snap. @1973daisey had this once. He was lucky it happened on a roundabout and all that needed fixing was a new ball joint.
Yes took it out today to try and localise the noise, defo front ! Then put back in garage and jacked it up removed wheels and with a rubber hammer tried all joints etc and inspected those thread with inner Allen key on beam .To be honest I couldn’t find a problem anywhere . Upper shock bolt looks very wrong, the tube inside the rubber should be a good fit on the bolt, so impossible for it to look like the photo. Our van had a random knock, not as bad as that, because the top bolt of one shock was loose - it felt tight but actually wasn't. The noise sounds like a pretty-definite "end of a big movement", much like I'd expect the sound made by the shock absorber hitting the end of its expansion. The ring sounds like thick sheet material, not bodywork but more like chassis or front suspension subframe. EDIT: the more I look and listen the more I think it's the shock hitting the end of its expansion. You could perhaps try tapping various bits with a light hammer to see which bit makes a similar clunk noise.

Morning chaps , ok I’ve removed the shock absorber completely put the crewie back on its boots and .................................... no clunking I’ve tried several times to make it “clunk” but it refuses so result next thing is clunk prevention as the pic shows the aperture in the shock is way different to the beam ! Ideas ? Funny how the other side makes no noise, I’ll remove that too and make good also . Just not sure how at the mo . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You only need to take off the rubber boot to check underneath. Which if done carefully can be replaced without damage.
Do you have the old shocks, can the bushes be swapped over.. get in touch with kyb to get the correct size looks like para spotred the problem....
