  1. Seriously - money off beer and Arthur becoming tax free - this may actually be an awesome day (arthur is an m reg built nov 73 so we should be golden if this is all true)

I did Tom, no idea if it's accurate, but mine is a 68 model year so that's right.

  6. Thanks Tom for your link, I've just used it and found out that I'M IN !!!!!!!!!!!!
By using the chassis number off the vehicle registration document and using Tom's link I found out that although my van was registered in October 1974 she was actually manufactured in September 1973  This makes me happy :):):):)
I've also found another link referring to it here........

do you still have to apply or not for April 2014 or just unsorn

  11. How do you prove to Dvla your van was built before so able to tax free? Anybody done it?

  12. You will have to apply for a change to the vehicle's classification, so you'll have to fill in a form, if necessary with supporting evidence, to get the taxation class changed to historic. They won't do it automatically for you.

  13. A letter/documentation from the manufacturer will do it. I've got a letter from VW UK confirming the build date of mine (previous owner did this and left it in the "history" file for the van) but most people get the VW birth certificate, and that's perfectly acceptable too.

  14. My van was made in Mexico - any ideas on how to check the build date? Does the chassis number checker even work for non Germa imported vans??
My log book says 1st Jan 75. I used that link to the chassis number checker and it says build date Nov 74 - if it's correct for other country imports.

  15. Roll on this time next year, 4 cars and only £20 road tax to pay, 2x tax free volks 1x tax free fiesta low emissions and my Ka only £20, brill,
    Steve
