..also have a really good look underneth where you eventually route the exhaust pipe as it gets really hot and there’s a tank and all the fuel lines in nearby..I’m currently fitting mine and honestly it’s getting me headache especially that exhaust bit

  3. The tank is in a completely sealed box, fuel lines up above the rear axle I really don’t see that as a problem!

Refitted a 5kw heater this week to friends T2 as I’d previously installed it last summer but got it upside down - with the glow plug at the bottom, cue a heater that will never start!

After seeing fairly pricey enclosures available for external mounting I’ve Installed it inside an ammo tin, still in testing at the moment as I’m worried it’s getting too warm.

Still got to replace the supplied green fuel hose as the stuff that’s been on less than a year has gone brittle and is leaking, its got the appearance of shattered glass along the length exposed to the elements.

2 closeable outlets after a Y piece have been added, 1 inside the van under bed into the kick board and the other to the outside mounted under the sill to heat an awning, though not finished the photos show some of what I’ve done.

  6. Don't leave the exhaust exiting under the van. It should exit to the outside preferably not below an opening window and opposite any awning. Exhaust Extension (2).JPG

  7. I must adjust mine as the wind blows the fumes straight into the awning.

  8. For my caravan I made a deflector out of an old exhaust, mainly to stop high winds blowing up the exhaust and causing a flameout, but you can swivel it to direct the exhaust which way you want.

  9. Cool idea!
Though as you say, may be getting too hot hey.

When I get round to installing a heater i’ll use this material for the box:

Is it the confined space you think is the problem?
    It’s a nice neat fit you’ve got.

That was only mid way through fitting, I’ve got it routed as yours to the drivers side rear wheel.

Possibly getting too hot but not run it long enough as need to get some diesel, it might just need some vent holes putting in.

I’d say as per all the other options available anything aluminium/stainless/tin will do, it’s not likely to catch fire, I think an ally composite board might be a bit OTT.

  11. I've been giving serious consideration to getting one of these heaters. Can I tap into the collective thinking on here regarding where to place the heater?

I've seen a lot of pictures of where people have placed them but I'm still getting a bit stuck on where I can put mine.

I like the idea of it going underneath, but there are a couple of issues - (1) where the pipework will come up into the van and (2) I have a radiator for the scooby engine under there too.

I have a twin slider model so this limits options regarding where I can bring the pipework up.

Under the rear seat is not an option, because (a) it's used for a lot of storage of other stuff and (b) the ECU and electrics for the scooby engine are under there.

I had considered under one of the battery trays, but then that raises a lot of questions about routing the pipework for cold air intake/warm air outlet.

If it goes somewhere outside/underneath, then I'd be looking at putting it in an enclosure.

I also wondered whether anyone had ever managed to find room under the cab. My spare wheel sits under the front seats, as it's a non-walkthrough, so it can't go there.

    Thoughts?

  12. I've got one got the tank behind the passenger seat ,and the heater under passenger seat blowing hot air into the cab area so that won't work for you
they are a little temperamental but are really good I've also had a afterburner controller made which is a game changer
I think under the floor is a good option and it's where a would go if I fitted one again
I ll take a photo of the heater later can't find one 20210418_184300.jpg

Here's an old picture of mine I've since changed the pipe work
So it sucks through from under the bed & blows to the dash and walk through vents.[IMG]

@iblaze I noticed you used the exhaust that comes with the kit. Any idea if it actually makes a difference? I had read and have been told that just ensuring your inlet and outet pipes are equal length is enough - be interested to know, then I might dig my exhaust out of the loft.

  16. The silencer will make it a lot quieter.

The equal-length thing (at least according to Eberspächer) is tosh.

I have two heaters 1 under the bus the other in my shed both have the exhaust that came with the kits and both have never given me any trouble.
As for the silencer there's nothing inside them
Both you can see straight through.[IMG]

Sounds like all the usual areas are taken up with other things on your bus. Underneath forward of the radiator? What about the spare wheel well in the back ?

  19. Yes, it's tricky. There is no spare wheel well in the back. My bus is a non-walkthrough twin slider, and therefore the spare wheel lives under the cab seats. The additional issue is that with 2 sliding doors, there is no bank of cupboards on the non-sliding door side within which to hide the heater. I do have a unit in the opening of the passenger side slider, rather like the Westfalia sink unit, although it has a 2 burner hob on top and a fridge below. I did wonder whether I could put the heater under the floor here, with pipework coming up through the floor in the back of this cupboard, but wasn't sure about a hot pipe running at the back of my fridge - I thought it might interfere with the fridge's ability to keep cold.

I'll try and put a sketch together of the layout and then maybe I can give a better impression of how things are.
