Not sure if I like the clear front indicator lenses so I pop some good used original ones on.. 59ACACC2-4305-4F4B-8B95-D1F321B08A0E.jpeg

110ah leisure battery fits! Just waiting for the cable to arrive so I can connect it up. Also need to drill a hole to fit the clamp. 0E76E81E-D3D8-4AB2-8746-343E39BD1F83.jpeg

I have been trying to work out where to fit the speakers for ages. I didn’t want to cut the lovely new front door cards and I didn’t want to drill holes in the westy cabinets that I’ve spent ages restoring either. So I guessed the kick panels were as good a place and they panels are cheap enough to replace if I’m not happy with the results. So I reckoned a set of 2 way component speakers from jbl with 130mm woofers should fit ok. I made some wooden baffles to provide a solid base for them and used plenty of soundproofing to make them sound as good as possible. It is an old bus so I’m not expecting great results but as long as I can hear the sat nav and a few tunes I’ll be happy.

So to fit the tweeters I’ve got to run cables up the a posts and then fit the ply headlining in the cab. One job always leads to another! So before I can do this I have to secure the roof rack with bolts along the rear along with rubber washers between the fibreglass and the roof. Then it’s fitting soundproofing and insulation to the cab roof. Then onto the ply. Now my bus came with a pretty poor interior and the headliner was awful. It looked to be a previous owners hack and was a bugger to remove. I had no choice but to draw round it onto a new piece of plywood not knowing if it was the correct size or shape. It wasn’t! Plenty of pushing and shoving and trimming finally had it in place but not before fitting the interior light and 96BD2157-9986-4A12-B1A7-1026FFD46133.jpeg 356D4A60-6F41-442D-AE96-57F047C8F74B.jpeg 45A1B22F-DE44-493D-BBED-F4A7CB09A60C.jpeg D5FC79CF-CAC1-447E-B493-986F1799E9EE.jpeg B4162047-2132-4DFF-903A-5718F3A6F1D4.jpeg 6D310072-5D86-484C-B73D-EE8201C63546.jpeg EBCC431F-933F-4323-BB43-D605656297DC.jpeg a number of coats of varnish! I could then finally fit the tweeters and sun visors...

On to the curtain track covers and narrow headlining sides but I’ve run out of plywood that’s long enough...

  7. Do you have a link for the camera kit you used, been meaning to do this for a long time but cant commit to buying a camera thats too bulky! Yours looks great!!

It’s just a cheapy from evilbay. I’ll try to find the link for you. I had to buy an adaptor for it to connect to my head unit.

So close to the end now and I really want to try and get Chilli to the West’est fest VW show at the end of the month. But it’s unbelievable how awkward some of these final jobs are! I’m getting there but I’m not enjoying it!!

So I’ve scratched my head and finally decided where to put the leisure battery fuse box. I’ve hidden the fuse box inside a plastic adaptable box to allow some protection. Good idea that! The fuse box broke as soon as I tried to get the lid off! Cheap rubbish! New one on order... 077A9204-54DE-4941-B42D-AE2ADD9B1A6A.jpeg

I’m keeping the electrics very simple. No hook up, and no solar. A few usb sockets and 12v sockets here and there. The stereo and the eberspacher will also go on the leisure battery. My idea is keep it basic and adapt it to how we use it!

The replacement cubby lid beside the cooler that I made somehow ended up too big(measure once, cut twice!). So I used the router gingerly to trim it to size and also add the rebate for the knock on trim.

New solid brass piano hinge and screws and it on. Another of the jobs I’ve been avoiding is done! Next the rear 1/4 window...

So I redid the rear 1/4 window ages ago but I wasn’t happy with it. I used a nos vw glass frame, divider and ally frame from NLA and the glass seal from autocraft. I can’t remember where the outer seal come from but it wasn’t cheap. It wouldn’t close properly and looked like it would leak if I could get it to shut! So I bought a better glass to frame seal from C&C and had another go.

All I can say is that there is a new rear slider winging its way from shofields and Pembrokeshire heard some very choice language today!!!! Nuff said but the suppliers really should be embarrassed selling this rubbish at inflated prices stating its ‘top quality’!
