Just had a look at my driving license as it’s split whilst in my wallet - it expires in August , good job I’d looked at it ..another £14 to the DVLA

worth checking the dates folks

You get a reminder letter a bit closer in date to the expiry. Mine expires in May, reminder letter in March.

  4. Yep,
They only last 10 years. Funnily enough the wife is a solicitor and only realised at the weekend at hers expired last November
Luckily DVLA has extended all expired licenses for 12 months due to the pandemic.

  5. Unfortunately we didn’t get that letter Mike, so it’s as well to check. As in all things the responsibility is yours and not the governments to remind you....

Take some pictures of your old one as they have a habit of not putting all the classes on the new one.

  7. I never knew that driving licences only lasted 10 years. Is it because the photo needs to be renewed?

  8. yep I think so

  9. If you still have a paper one, I think your fine, they expire when you're 70, but I got a plastic one after getting funny looks when travelling.

I don't think paper ones are non longer valid, it's just a lot of folk don't know what they are and have never seen them before.

Yup. No letter either. Only realised when I came to insure the car and was informed the license had expired, but not to worry because of the pandemic extension!
    I wasn't worried!
More concerned about the fact the insurance were obviously better informed about me than I am.
In the words of that Rockwell bloke..Somebody's watching meeee!

As you say, Mr P, but they didn't actually request a new photo even though there was no grey in the old one!
They simply used the one on my passport! which is newer.
It all seems very joined up for us soft targets:rolleyes:

  12. I think that the paper one may still be valid
If it has the correct address,
They don’t accept the paper one in Spain for car hire anymore as some bloke found out at Murcia airport

  13. Yeah, I think it's meant to be for photo but unofficially it's to catch us out and charge us a fine no doubt

The revealing thing is just how integrated things are becoming. I wouldn't mind so much but it doesn't deter the scroats one iota from driving uninsured or without a valid licence.
Well, Police Interceptors on Paramount TV told me so it must be true:thinking:

Also, don't forget to check your passports!

Daughter thing just booked a trip to Portugal and now has to come to London to get a same day replacement!!
you also need to know the rules about how long is left on it before you travel.

I have never understood that part. Why do you need to ensure it has 6 months left on it?
    Has it expired? no, great.
Has it expired? no, but there is less than 6 months on it so it is not valid for travel.

    Bonkers!

  17. Yeah, mad, you can't go to the EU for more than 90 days without a Visa, why do you need more than 90 days at the time of entry, then?

  18. Yes, very integrated, my passport and license even use the same photo.

So you step out of the airport terminal, look the wrong way and a taxi sends you flying off the arrivals level. Five months later your body is now in one piece, as you leave hospital. and your passport is still in date so they will let you back on the plane to go home.

If you are any later, you cant afford the "facilitation fee" you need to pay the guy at the passport desk to let you on the plane.

  20. How long does a Southerners Visa last in Yorkshire? Is it still 3 months?
