Cavity wax map

  1. Shamelessly stolen off the earlybay forum so is for early bays but should still be usefull for late bay owners.

    Heres a list of places to shove the cavity wax probe. :eek:

    the injection points with circles are existing holes
    the circles coloured black need to be plugged with a rubber bung
    triangles need drilling
    black coloured triangles need drilling and plugging with bungs

  2. That's very handy I may try this over the coming winter just to make sure the dreaded rust doesn't get a hold of Milly. :)
     
  3. Used this "map" to do my Bus when I got it, I used 3.5 tins of Dintriol to cover the whole Bus properly then spray Waxoil for the underside (non cavity).

    Still a little dubious about drilling holes were holes ain't and tried to find a way to get at some of the areas without having to, in fact I think in the end I only drilled 5. Took a full day to do it properly but well worth it.

  4. Very helpful thread. Thanks. Just one question though. When you say 'shove the cavity wax probe': where exactly can you buy such a probe from? I'd guess there must be loads on the market. Can you put up a link showing the one best suited to our buses?

    I agree.
    I find that diagram scary and I suspect it was produced as part of justifying high prices. I've seen buses with a series of the plugs as shown on the diagram - holes drilled all over the place unnecessarily.
    It's common sense where to inject the wax and with a long probe you can get to most places without drilling holes. Indeed if you look around you can get inside all the pillars for instance by removing existing rubber bungs. Same for front arches, deformation panel, rear valance, all the hollow chassis sections, outgiggers. There were originally bunged waxing holes into the sills inside the arches but these will likely be patched over. Inside you can get at most of the rear arch cavity, but there is one bit you can't because of a foam strip between the inner and outer panels. There may be original plastic bungs in here inside the wheelarch, but I haven't managed to get one out in one piece. Other than that inside the bottoms of all the doors. I think that's about it?

  9. I think theres better products available now than waxoyl. The dinitrol range of products get good reviews.

    No, he is extremely thorough and if he could be convinced to offer this as a service he would be busy for years to come.

  17. Jeez. Are you supposed to inject the waxoyl into all those holes? I think mine has just been painted on the surface. Can't see any holes at all. No way I can get back to the previous owner now.
     
  18. Like Zed said its as much common sense and using your noodle to find ways to get to areas (no need for 20000 extra holes, the UK weather does that for us anyway!)
    If you offer a product and charge a premium you have to present yourself in a manner that looks very professional much like the original manufacturers oiling/greasing chart, which I think that has been pinched from! Sneaky rascals! :rolleyes:

    Good to give people a idea where to point their sticky tubes though :)

    When I see a bus that's been done like the diagram I cry a little tear. Why drill all those extra holes when access to the cavities does not require them? Answer: so the customer has visual reference to the job actually being done and justification for the thorough high priced job. The holes have special bungs with Dinotrol emblazened on them - advertising at your expense, buses are always rotten around the holes.
