Have always been a big fan of Waxoyl over the years - though have noticed that it does need to be applied at the right temp and is not always easy to aim consistently, so I chose a product with recommendations in Practical Classics magazine.

I've only just done this work so I'll comment on performance after a few months, this thread is on ease of use primarily

I thought I'd give Bilt Hamber a whirl - they seem to have two types of wax - Dynax S-50 which is slightly runnier than Dynax UB.

Both come in aerosol and larger containers that can be painted on with a brush, or with a suitable Shutz gun and compressor.

The aerosol, especially with the longer hose is laughibly easy to use, and watching the spray head it does seem to give a wide fan of application - in chassis legs you can't see it work obviously, I just took my time withdrawing it to ensure more was applied.

The aerosol cans last suprisingly long (this stuff is not cheap compared to Waxoyl) and its easy to use in newly welded areas (I used S50 on the inside of my newly welded door skins and it seems to penetrate the seams well). The thicker UB was then applied in areas where I know there is water run off.

Both waxes don't come off with water - solvents move them with a bit of scrubbing from your skin and clothes, as I later found out. Other than some later spotting on the driveway, it was a very painless job, which makes me think I'll do it more often and I'll also do enclosed panels once I get decent rubber bungs to cover the drill holes.

So, thus far - rust prevention is way easier than it used to be, just wish someone would have bothered in the intervening years since my dad sold it!!

  2. Ankorwax is way better, try it next time its sold by Morris oils. It won't wash off with heavy jetting like waxoil can. :)
