Can anyone recommend a company that does breakdown cover with home start

  1. Hi Folks,

I've spoken to 2 insurers who do insurance for campers vans that include breakdown cover but it doesn't include home start. Can anyone recommend someone who's breakdown cover does include home start.

    Thanks,

    Rob.

  2. RAC or AA do. Never had any problems with either.

  3. My RAC cover includes Home Start and is about £9 per month. It would have been cheaper if it was insurance for an individual, but I wanted it to cover the bus (no matter who was driving), so it pushed the price up.

The AA wouldn't cover the bus, only the individual. Only RAC would.

check carefully, i have the option of aa/rac on the bank account and was thinking of using this instead of the seperate cover i have with my insurance (s) but noticed it doesn't work on cars over 15 years old, with peter james insurance (van) i get cover included but i'm not sure if that is homestart, i've never worried about it not starting at home and worst case you just get it pushed a mile up the road if you're that bothered. with my car i have homestart but that was just 'cos it was on the policy i don't normally bother, my insurance is due soon on the car and i'm with kwikfit at the moment but i'll probably move to someone else, i can't risk not having breakdown with both my vehicles being auto's.

  6. Have rac cover not sure about home start, as i dont need it if at home i got a garage...

  7. Hi i have RAC Arrival this covers homestart, recovery and also if you have a holiday booked they take you their then bring you back after.

  8. Although I haven't had to use them yet (so far) AutoAid seems very good and reasonable too. As long as you have the means to pay for a breakdown/homestart on the spot they reimburse you later. I've heard a few good things about them. :)

I used to use Green Flag years ago and always found them good to deal with

  10. We are with GEM for the cars & Daisy-Mae is through the insurance. Daisy is technically covered by Gem as well, it was just we could get European breakdown with the insurance company!! GEM came out when we first had Daisy and off she went on the back of a flat bed to Autowerks to get the fuel leak fixed ... whole tank of fuel over the road :( thank goodness for the playsand in the shed ... soon soaked it all up :)

  14. Mrs Chipp and me (sorry, I) are with Green Flag for our vehicles - car, our 2 work vans and the camper. We have individual membership meaning we are personally covered for any vehicle we are in. However......camper is not covered cos of age. But what Green Flag do is allow you to essentially nominate a main vehicle which is covered for anyone driving it, and this can be the camper. Its a bit complicated I know  but it allows us to have all our vehicles covered in one policy. I am pretty sure we have homestart cos of the work vans.

    Hope this helps!

  16. Also meant to have said we have been very impressed with Green Flag the couple of times we have had to use them.

  17. Thanks for all your posts wow loads of option and combinations.

At the moment. I'm swayed between http://www.frankpickles.co.uk/breakdown-insurance.asp - £70 who essentially offer the same as the RAC (Road Side Recovery, Home Start and Onward Travel) - £119 unless I can talk them down.

RAC I know more about Frankpickles.co.uk I found in an internet search, does anyone use them or know anything about them? I should consider Autoaid but for the Campervan I can do without the hassle of paying every time we called someone out for Alex. We only bought Autoaid because we knew we would only rarely use it.

    Thanks,

    Rob.

  18. Hi rob Yep its down to how much you think your ever going to use them. RAC not cheapest but do no claims but they normally bump it up every year anyway. Its a lotto really cos you hope you will never have to use them but if you do you want to know they will be their when you want them.RAC i think do discout if you belong to some clubs.I got discount for belonging to camping club when i first got mine, good luck ,keep rolling 8)

  19. Check GEM out, some interesting schemes, that's who I am with.
