Camping cooking equipment

  1. I'm planning a trip to Ikea soon to stock up on cheap camping cooking type stuff for the bus.

Here's my list of things that I need so far.
    Anything obvious I've missed?
I've already got plates, bowls and cutlery.

    Mugs
    Chopping board
    Knives
    Tin opener
    Bottle opener
    Washing brush
    Washing bowl
    Frying pan
    Saucepan
    Wooden spoons

    Anything else?

    There must be loads more!

And how do you all store it whilst driving?

  2. Beer glasses!

  3. How could I forget?!
To be fair, I was just gonna use a mug! Haha.

  4. I take a collapsible storage box. Got it from a camping shop. All the cooking stuff goes in it, then when you get home chuck the lot in the dishwasher ready for next time.
Wine boxes are good as yiou get 3 bottles worth in a neat square box. You can also get beer boxes now too!.

  5. I like the alcohol related them going on here..... :p

  6. For most people the question at the end comes before the purchase and advises on what to buy. Depends what conversion you have, how your going to use it and whether you want to keep the bus stocked up. I don't have any interior at the moment so all my stuff is in a wooden box with alid but its all selected so as not to take too much space up. What I do want to do however is find a proper set of good quality stacking pans as I tend to use bog standard stuff that takes a load of room up.

  7. Well I got a Westy Berlin interior so plenty of cupboards. I was thinking the washing up bowl could double up as storage!

And I used to have some plastic collapsible boxes that were good.

I guess I'll need to measure up storage and see what I can fit in.

    Beer is a must though!

I don't tend to bother apart from a frying pan for breakfast.

  11. Funny you should say that.
I pre-ordered one of these and it's on its way.

  12. Good list there!
    Cheers.

  13. Corkscrew?

I use one of these to wash up with - saves carry extra washing up liquid unless it's a long trip :) (I also carry quite a few disposable paper plates and plastic beer glasses for those ever more common times when I can't face washing up afterwards!)

this is true, ginsters come in their own "tray" all the cider is in handy can or bottle form and the pan doubles up as emergency lav. happy days.

  15. Tea towels - double as packing fillers.
And you've not got a kettle
And have a look at this lot

Ikea does colour coded crockery for bay owners.
The mugs are good too, but because the O range wasn't spot on, we've mixed O range & B lack

    Can I suggest you go camping for real and make two lists;
One for all the stuff you took and didn't use
and another for all the stuff you wish you'd had

    You knows it!

  17. Thinking about your original list a bit more:
A wooden spoon is a poor choice.
Buy a set of those three wooden spatulas that you get for a quid and take one of those instead.
You can use it in a non stick pan, on a BBQ or as a spoon. But you can only use a spoon as a spoon.

Also a washing brush?, save weight - take a J cloth & a scotch cloth & get your hands wet!

Tin openers & bottle openers are also a bit passé.
If you choose your tins and your wine bottles carefully you'll need neither.
If you drink beer, take cans.

You should now have saved enough space & weight to take a table top ice maker.
Ice is a trade-able commodity on a campsite!

  18. Kettle, water carrier (10 litre for drinking, just use onboard tanks for washing) portable gas canister cooker (£12 ebay) for cooking big breakfast outside and not smelling out van, small containers for tea, coffee, sugar, washing up liquid.
