Camping clubs

  1. I've never bothered joining anything as I've always liked the freedom of just turning up somewhere. So far in 25 years of camper ownership I've never failed to find a camp site without a booking in UK and Europe. But there have been times when I ended up at club sites and some of them seem a bit snooty and rule bound. They let me in but they are expensive if you're not a member.

There seem to be three main ones, the Camping and Motorhome Club, the Caravan Club and the Camping and Caravanning Club. I suspect there are others.

I'm expecting that finding camp sites will be more difficult this year so I'm thinking of joining one of these clubs. Can I have recommendations for which club to join. I'm aiming to go to Scotland some time if that helps.

I’m in “camping and caravan club” and “caravan and motorhome club”. The latter used to be the “caravan club.” Confusing at times. They both have good points. No tents on the caravan and motorhome sites. Guaranteed nice clean shower blocks. At the risk of sounding snobby the other campers are generally nicer.
Downsides are they can be a bit boring and some of the rules are over the top. Having said that I’ve been to independent sites with really silly rules.

After 50 years of camping I’d much rather be on a nice independent site but you can depend on the club sites

If you want a guaranteed quality of facilities then the main 2 clubs are hard to beat .... and they don't up their prices in line with demand, other than normal low, medium and high season...no doubling prices because of staycation.

I’ve noticed on the motorhome sites 99.9% of the vans look the same

  6. Clubs can get a discount for meets ,also can get on parks where they don’t usually take campers,
We only took clubs on our park,
You will have to get used to nosey rally officials
Some used strut around thinking they were Micheal Eavis,
    Met some cool officials though
    Like Ron Haslams team machanic:)

We’re in both - being able to check availability and book online is pretty handy at the moment. Caravan and Motorhome club has a tad better facilities generally.

We have been members of them but have given up with them.
We found the sites including a lot of the small ones were booked up all the time by people booking at the start of the year all the dates they might go plus the main sites were often more expensive than a comparable private site.

  9. Another vote for the caravan and motorhome club,They have lots of rules but you don't F in drum and bass or radio M F . lots of dog owners with very small dogs and some knowing nods when you eat outside in all weathers ,if someone has spent £100,000 on a motorhome their not eating outside .last week at carsington water site there were 3 twin axle motorhomes easily in that price bracket

We are in Camping and Caravanning Club. Never come across any snootiness. We tend to use the smaller certificated sites. We love em, though my favourite site was the Club site at Luss on Loch Lomand.

Was going to say, I like that they tend not to be too rowdy. I’m at an age where I appreciate that :D
