Bought ours from Karmann Konnection 4 years ago but alas they are not selling bays anymore as they say they 'hard to find any good ones in California any more'. But have you tried VW DOWNUNDER at Basildon or Bullibarn at colchester. There is a very good cheap book on buying a used bay from Amazon called 'the Essential buyer's Guide ~Volkswagen BUS' £9.99. Try and get to a VW show where there always some for sale. Good luck and take a small magnet with you when veiwing (handy for checking for filler) ZED is a member on here and has a very solid early bus for sale, see classified ads.
They've got a bay in at the moment so I'd definitely keep an eye on their site. When they do have them they tend to look good.
Yes, we rented one and camped for 4 days last month and absolutely loved it. Some wonderful advice on here. Thanks so much everyone
It got so wild I raised the stakes and had a brew out of the mug with the pigeon on it! In Elton's eyes Saturday nights might be alright for fighting... but when biscuits need to be dunked, shizzle gets real! Better to have tasted the honey than just sit looking at the pot.......
Rust is the biggest and potentially most expensive problem so would be an idea to look at an import, left hand drive is not as difficult as you would think! There are a number of importers around - we are near Dunmow if you would like a cuppa and a chat, I bought a US import as a project, bodywork good but mechanicals and interior need work, but would be happy to show you what to look out for. I agree with Izzybay about vw down under and Bullibarn, worth having a chat with them too.
Welcome aboard I've little to add to the already excellent advice above, just to say try to go to some shows and talk to owners as one thing we all like doing for hours on end is talking about our buses! Also see the seperate thread on here for Techenders in a couple of weeks, I could highly recommend a visit. You can talk to some of the folks on here and ask as many questions as you like. My other top tip is buy an 0range one, they is kewl!
Welcome, me and my hubby are new to this also but so far, after a few late nights reading and a couple of near misses (purchases that were close....) we've learnt a lot, I mean a serious amount, purely from reading the many newbie posts and guides and looking about. After two weeks we've really narrowed our search and know what we want and what we want to pay, its a real steep learning curve but very exciting, also very exciting to think we might own an actual bay..! Good luck searching. Elizabeth x
if you just want a camper, buy a bongo or a t4.....will be far more practical and a lot more economical to own and run. Old vw's aren't for the faint of heart, and you either need mechanical know how or deep pockets really.....you have to love them to put up with the foibles. That said, as long as you're going into it with your eyes open the advice here is second to none +1 for zeds early....ive been out in it and its a good'un.... Don't be put off by the lack of a shiny paint job...all that glitters often is a turd rolled in glitter hahaha
