Campervan Culture - T25 Syncro goodness

  1. Nice one Sven. I was confused: A TLB member with a Scandinavian name writing in perfect English from Croatia. Anyway, nice to have you on this site. Yes, Croatia's quite big on the holiday scene nowadays and my wife and I have been talking about going their some day. From all the photos I've seen it looks like a beautiful country. And not that far from Italy. Easy to get there in a VW bus.

  2. Wow amazing amazon coverage. 8) 8) 8)

  3. I love off roading bays, they look so out of place, and yet so strangely at home :)

Oh, and I'm now a subscriber to Campervan Culture 8) site

  4. Hi chaps, firstly a quick hello and we are glad you like www.campervanculture.com

We went to the Syncro 25 year anniversary event in Germany at Mammut Park a year or so ago and we witnessed some very rare and not very often seen film of the prototype Syncro and yes, Its a late bay that has 4wd. It was tested by driving across North Africa and a bit of it can be seen in this video I made of the trip (5:17 onward) Germany Mammut Park VW Syncro 25 years event 2010 (Part 1)

I did have a little chuckle though when it was suggested a bay could do most the things a Syncro can in our Wales video. Bays are infact not to shabby at getting off wet grass and the odd muddy field much better than a 2wd T25 and loads better than a 2wd T4, but in those videos from youtube they are relying on speed and momentum to get through the sticky parts. If you hit a rocky part at 30mph your going to tip the van on its side or worse. If you try and drive slowly and in control like we do the minute you get a back wheel spinning or in the air then you are not going anywhere. If you are speeding through deep mud and loose momentum your in the s**t. On our Syncros we have front and rear diff locks too and without these even with the 4wd we would be quite useless off road.

A bay with a rear diff lock would however be quite capable and a few of the 2wd T25 owners have fitted them and letting half the air out of your rear tyres nearly always gets you out of a sticky patch. Bays look nice they have there place but a Syncro they are not and are fast becoming this seasons must have....

    Stay safe Jed

  5. Hi jed and welcome to the site

Do you have any more info on lockable diffs for a bay?

  6.
  7. Cheers for the info dude
I was thinking an airlocking diff may be the way forward on a bay

Id love a syncro but the prices have rocketed in recent years
Ive a landrover defender which is very capable off road but not much fun to camp in

  8. Thanks for putting up the video of the syncro bay I wonder what happened to it

  11. I think VW still own it, I had a good sniff in, on and under it. its driven by UJ's rather than CV joints on the front drive shafts and its in permanent 4wd. All the under belly protection is abit wiry and apart from leaking abit of oil (dont they all) its in quite good nick really. It was on show when I was in Germany and was attracting quite abit of attention.
