Without the option of actually going camping much this last 12 months, I've mostly been using the camper for dog walking purposes, and having a brew afterwards; and it's getting a bit dirty inside. Today I caught myself pondering 12v portable vacuum cleaners. I am turning into someone I no longer recognise! I mean, do I need a DustBuster in my life? Are they actually a good idea? Or is lockdown finally getting to me? Help!
I’m no cab happy mr sheen person, but why not clean it, it at least gives you something to do while we’re all locked up. I contemplated cleaning the T5 yesterday, but the thought passed
Well, normally I’d say need to get out more, but... I’ve not touched a vacuum cleaner inside the bus or anywhere else lately since I don’t have to worry about visitors any more. I keep a small dustpan and brush and a cloth or two in the bus but they don’t get much use either.
My experience of 12v / cordless vacuum cleaners is that they are lame as a very lame thing.... a dust pan and brush would be more effective. Or maybe open all doors and windows, and go at it with a leaf blower to get all the sand out of your crevasses
I have a little 12 volt vacuum cleaner in the bus, and it works well until the dust filter blocks with the fine silt from the soil round here - it can take only a couple of minutes on the Flotex carpet to block it. Thats just walking mud in from the garden path for the last 9 months using it as an office. Otherwise, its a no-nonsense Henry with a HEPA filter - we once had a Dyson but didnt like its habit of using its mains lead as a voltage dropper, and also the filter blocking every few minutes. Today I was using a £2 dustpan and brush from Sainsburys to clean the carpet - the brush came apart in me hands the first time I used the brush, so I had to screw it back together with self tappers, as the clipped together parts pop undone as you use the brush with any force.
Funny thing, when I met Jules from the forum at Volksworld and he saw my bus and looked at the floor tiles and said “great, a dirty floor...” I was about to feign offence when he continued; “... it’s great to see a bus that actually gets used!”. And abused!
I have one, it's great And I'm not really the compulsive cleaning sort, honest! Edit, this one...https://www.costco.co.uk/Tyres-Auto...C-Flexi-Car-Vacuum-Model-PD1200AV-XJ/p/170487
Doesn’t the dog get a bit fed up walking around in the camper? Let him/her walk in the garden, then the camper won’t get dirty. Sorted.
I know a chap who is so lazy that despite having almost no floor space in his narrowboat has a robot vacuum cleaner.
You don't need a 12v vacuum for the bus, waste of money and they are usually crap anyway. If you need to clean the bus just do it using the house vacuum
Carpet in a camper is just crazy!!! rubber mar up front and some sort of vinyl tiles or Summat in the back. A small brush and your done.
I got one of these a year or two back they are very good but like all 12v kit use with engine running.
A house vacuum? Who has one of those??! oh... people have carpet in their houses? Really? Wooden floors all the way. And no carpet in the camper either. You're right. It was pure folly. Madness! Lockdown craziness! It's just the sandy dusty stuff that mud round here turns into when it's deposited by a large hairy dog all over the seats and my rock n roll bed.... and the dog hair...... Maybe I'll treat myself to a new brush. Thanks TLB, another crisis averted
