  1. The only reason I'd sell (or give away) anything on here is because I'd like to think it was helping out a fellow enthusiast.....Ebay comes along and suddenly everyone's a f*ckin' Arthur Daley.....if you make a living from it, fair enough....a good trader succeeds or fails on his/her reputation and fair prices for fair stuff....if you're just trolling the classifieds on here and buying something because you reckon you could make a £10 on it, by taking a pic and writing some bullsh*t copy for Ebay, then i'm inclined to agree with @Dicky ....feck off and leave it to the enthusiasts...

  2. Totally agree but how do you filter out the professionals even if that was in itself a good idea, which incidentally I don't
It was in fact one of those traders who ultimately put me in touch here so it's his fault !!!!
Another question I have is how does one value an item before it goes on sale here ?
I am coming to the end of my resto and have a lot of stuff which I will want to clear away soon, don't want to go to that other auction site as it is very hit and miss not to say a bit trumpy with its charges, can't list here without putting a price up, I have Been lucky so far with what I have sold to members as we have come to a mutually agreeable figure but there must be a generally accepted price schedule that members can feel is value for money, no excess profit for traders so they bog off, and the vendors see they achieve a fair price from an enthusiast who is often working to a tight budget and keeping the VW world going
I know this is pie in the sky and utopia but any suggestions guys or girls ?

Decide what you want and be done with it. Overcharge and it won't sell. Undercharge and someone has a bargain. At least then, you are carrying on the dub luv.

  4. I once saw an original Westfalia ice cube tray on sale for £45...ffs...it's a piece of old plastic tosh...if you're prepared to pay that much for it, then more fool you...as @poptop2 said...think how much you'd be prepared to pay for it and that's your asking price....
Don't get me started on rarity value....most of the original interior stuff was cheaply made and can be remanufactured with better quality materials for less IMO

God. I would have loved that! :(

  6. And the trader sharks will keep circling !!
The point that was raised was about traders jumping in and snapping up items before genuine people got a chance
Survival of the fittest is for that other auction site

  12. For once I agree with didyman, if only to stop those that come on here and make their first post an advert for their camper van for sale. (hopefully most sponsors will have done 30 posts).

The rest of it, including the traders snapping stuff up, not sure you can police/do anything about that, you take your chances either as a buyer or seller. However, if I gave something away to someone who later ebayed it I would be mighty pee'd off about that too.

  13. I've had nothing but good experiences on here.
Just go by simple rules.. First to pay gets it. First price you agree on.. It stays at, no bidding wars.
1 post and desirable stuff.. Scam, no brainer.
Never pay paypal gift. Unless you know them. If not just add the 2.5% paypal fee for a little bit more security if they're unwilling to pay their seller fee. You wouldn't send cash through the post, don't do it through the net.

Yes it is annoying when people troll the classifieds and are always first to get the best stuff, I've missed out on a fair bit. But that's within their rights. They're just inconsiderate pricks and there ain't much we can do about it.

Other forums have a minimum post limit before you can sell, so hopefully we'll adopt that soon.

Yes there are scammers and *****s out their who are very cleverly trying to get your money. Can't get rid of them all, and there's no way to spot them in a crowd.n so we need to be savvy, use common sense and always protect your hard earned.

    Bosh... That's my input ;)

50 posts minimum until you can sell something or pay £10 to do so from post 1.

    That would deter the shisters

It's only tat at the end of the day. You do seem to take this buying and selling of it very seriously. I would say - this thread has simply been a tool for you to vent your frustration over One purchase that hasn't quite gone as it should. Overall the sales on here are very upright and extremely well conducted. people give stuff away all the time and some ( like me ) make a loss a lot of the time - cest la vie!

  16. Far from it, I originally wanted an Airstream, didn't have anything that could tow it so gave up on that.
Looked on ...y one Sunday at 2.30 in the afternoon and by 7.30 that evening I was the proud owner of a late bay.
Thought the orange coloured van looked salvageable then buyers remorse set in as I found the dull orange colour was indeed rust in its early stages I think that seems a familiar scenario
But having driven the van I was now hooked and the money nose bleed started, occasionally it morphed into a small haemorrhage but fortunately with the help of some very astute purchases a lot of luck and an uncanny partner who can sniff out a bargain I am now in the lucky position of having a van which will serve me well for many years that hasn't cost the earth and is now part of the family.
The patient is recovering well, wounds healing nicely and hopefully a small transfusion in the form of asset disposal will restore the status quo
So Trader No this is a non profit venture and as such no vat involved

  18. what about the orange washing up bowl that was around £200....

  19. OR just don't buy from anyone who hasn't posted much? I think in general anywhere on the internet is 'buyer beware' however I know its very easy to get over confident on a forum.
But everyone on here knows who they know, and new people can can come along with a load of stuff to sell which isn't necessarily a bad thing, your only protection in this instance is paypal, dont send money as a gift if its a newbie your buying from.
