Some times its worth treating the one you made as a prototype, stripping off the bits you need again , getting some sheet metal and doing it again with greater knowledge (and more practice..)
Right, first to replace the chewed up pivot sleeve support. Found a bit of 3mm, which should do the trick Thicker than the old bit
Yes, i Yes ;-) , its the bit where you realise the struggle to carry on is actually harder than starting again..
Even though the 3mm took some hammering to get it that shape, it was easier than working with the irregular shape of what was left of the old bit. A bit more to do now to make the new support fit the old bracket, but nearly there I hope.
Just a couple of tack welds holding it together. It took a couple of goes of fettling and retacking but it fits and the pedal is now in the middle of the hole, which is a novel experience Now to weld it up solid and then work out how best to weld it in place.
Some of my welding looks ok and I now have some metal to weld to But my welding is mostly best hidden away - it is functional though. Prepainted the bracket before welding in place
Well it ain't pretty but it is solid The pedal is in the middle, the clutch adjusted and it appears to work It's still on stands until I've painted it (the purple stuff is Vactan), which'll be tomorrow now. Then a quick oil change and it'll be ready to road test this clutch fix and the servo I fitted Edit: Must remember to put the steering arm back on!
To be honest the 60 shake down miles that I did involved 5 x 12 mile trips, so I've never even warmed it up properly yet. Maybe it'll free up after a good run or too.
Thank you kind Sir. The shift rod won't fully engage 1st. I've tried helping it, through the filler plug hole, with a lever but I couldn't make it go all the way. If it were possible to get the nose cone off in situ I could get to the end of the 1st/2nd shift rod and persuade it a little better, but I don't think it's possible.
Hmm. First port of call, really, see if the selectors are…selecting. I’d say it’s not possible to get the cone off with the tranny in the van.
