I've been dreading sorting this one out but finally plucked up the courage to start it. At some point in my bus's previous life in South Africa, the lower pedal arm bracket got badly bodge welded up. It all seemed to work so I left it as is and painted over it. Mistake. As the pivot had been welded in crookedly, the lower pedal arm had been twisted to compensate. That hadn't quite worked so I'd slightly straightened the curved pedal arm to stop it rubbing. Went to show off my rolling project to a mate and when I went to leave, the clutch pedal arms had bent and were hitting the steering box so I couldn't use it. Jimmied it a bit to get home and there it's sat in the garage since September when my back went. Now that I've hopefully sorted the brakes and found I don't have a fuel leak, just learned to use the solenoid cut-off, it's time to sort the clutch so I can drive him again. So first purchase thanks to eagle-eyed TLBers was 20 quid delivered and there's no play in it at all. Cleaned up nicely ready for paint As did the pedal from Mick Taking the two bolts out didn't help as the whole thing had been welded in Ground the edges and peeled a bit back And it finally gave in So now I'm left with the cradle bit that's sitting crookedly in the bracket More grinding and managed to chop that bit out So now I'm left with this That's as far as I've got. Welding the cradle back in properly isn't really possible in situ as a couple of tacks won't be man enough. Looks like half a dozen spot welds to drill out and a bit of grinding to remove the bracket. That way I can build it back up properly on the bench. I knew it wasn't going to be a quick job but...... Have to wait now as I'm away for a couple of days but I've got the bit between my teeth again and looking forward to sorting this. I just want to drive my bus
Do you want a thread diversion? . These are available for the price of a can of gold paint. Good progress on sorting the clutch pedal. I can imagine the original repair where the local repair guy turns up with a welding stick and two car batteries and a pair of shades.. while the owner is sitting somewhere out on a hilly road, stuck. Half an hour later the bus is on its way..
What are @mikedjames ? Replacements for this? - Finally got the bugger off. Otherwise I'm going to have to try and mend this one or make a new one from scratch.
Made a start. Never done anything like this before, so really feeling my way and going slowly. Started cleaning up the old bracket and grinding off the birdMarmite welds. Also having a bash at adding the missing bit to the middle support.
The bit in the clamp is the part with the captive nuts that the pedal assembly one bolts to, if that makes sense. I've just got to make sure it's straight!
Get plenty of weld on it, then get jiggy with the grinder. You’ll end up with something approximately the right shape
