Busfest - Malvern Showground - 6-8 Sept 2013

  1. BUSFEST 2013 - NEWS

First of all; a MASSIVE thanks to all of you who supported us for our first BUSFEST event.

We are now pleased to announce that continued support from our Traders, long term supporters & sponsors and dedication by the BUSFEST Crew means we WILL be producing another INTERNATIONAL Gathering of Transporters & enthusiasts at Malvern next year.

BUSFEST 2013 will take place over the weekend of 6th - 8th SEPTEMBER.. :mwave: :mwave: :mwave: :mwave: :mwave:

BOOKINGS will open on our website http://www.busfest.org on 14th JANUARY 2013. :chewie:

The (other) GOOD NEWS is that we will NOT be increasing our prices this year.

We will keep the ADULT Price at £35.00 Per Person.

The CAMPING UNIT Price will remain at £20 for a 7mx7m plot.

    The DAY VISITOR
price will remain at £15 per adult.

    (AND
...................................... unlike most other events you will NOT
    be hit with ANY
    Booking Fees.) :arrggh:

    ************************************************************

However, to enable that to happen and do what we have got planned for next year, (and continue to produce events at Malvern) we are going to have to make a few changes to the event.

    Our first BUSFEST
was smaller than our previous events, (but that was planned), as we needed to reduce the event to a more manageable level and also because we believed (correctly) that a poor year for shows generally (weather wise), the effect of the recession and re-branding of the event would likely lead to less people pre-booking.

Unfortunately, we do not think that there is likely to be much improvement in that situation & although we expect there to be some pick up in numbers from last year we are thinking that in the long term we are unlikely to get right back up to previous figures.
This is because whilst people are still happy to pay a bit less and go to cheaper non show ground sites & events then we are not going to be able to compete on price & the downward trend in our camping numbers is likely to continue. (unless , of course it looks like being muddy next year again!).

(And before anyone else says it; reducing our charges right down to get more campers in is not the answer - that just creates more area requirements plus service & hire charges which we cannot afford.)

This means is that we will have to further downsize the event for 2013 in line with our predicted numbers to reduce our hire and servicing costs.
    We will NOT
be operating our off site Welland or Langdale Wood Camps next year & will be downsizing the North Camp.
We will still be aiming to keep our Camping Units total target to roughly the same as last year and will now fill some of the other gaps left on the show ground which have appeared since some campers & clubs have decided to go elsewhere.
This is (obviously) still the big unknown for next year & something we will have to review again at the end of July when the advance bookings close.
We will be relocating some of the Displays & the Show & Shine to make better use of the areas & new buildings that are now available to us.

We will still be providing FREE
    evening Entertainment, BUT
, at the moment it is also looking like we may have to reduce our Main Evening Entertainments down to 4 venues.
A 38% increase in the Main Entertainment Marquee hire charges last year makes it (unlikely at the moment) that we will be able to afford to use it.
We will still aim to bring you the BEST daytime (and evening) entertainments we can within our budget .

The acts will be announced in the new year when we will have (hopefully) resolved (or not) the issue with the Main Evening Entertainment marquee

OK, lets try and be a bit more upbeat here........................It is NOT all doom and gloom(I am just telling you how it is). C:)

Whilst we may have to change things around a bit we ARE confident that we will STILL bring you a VANTASTIC event at the BEST Show ground in the Country.

    :praise:

WE can promise you that BUSFEST 2013 will still be the BIGGEST and BEST truly INTERNATIONAL VW TRANSPORTER FESTIVAL anywhere!

If you have any doubt as to what we are capable of achieving (or have not been to our events before then check out the info, comments & pictures on our facebook page or website)

We will still have a massive Trade & Vehicle Sales Area and plenty of other activities going on.

We will of course also be celebrating our 20th YEAR at MALVERN and producing our own BIG VW to mark the occasion.

    :praise:

    WHY COME TO BUSFEST?

BUSFEST is CERTAINLY, UNDOUBTEDLY, PROBABLY, & DEFINITELY the BEST VW EVENT to go to for ALL VW TRANSPORTER FANS, FRIENDS & FAMILIES

CERTAINLY – With a Full 3 days to keep you amused we will have the MOST comprehensive Entertainment programme for all ages of ANY VW EVENT. (We ARE still providing FREE evening entertainment).

UNDOUBTEDLY - We have use of the BEST Show ground and facilities (and views!) in the country for staging our event (whatever the weather!!) .
With excellent fixed indoor (and outdoor) facilities, good drainage and tarmac roadways we know you will have a good time when you are with us.

PROBABLY – (along with all our other special displays), this year we will be presenting the BIGGEST vehicle display of any event (anywhere).

To celebrate our 20th year of presenting Transporter events at Malvern. The BUSFEST BIG VW Display will contain at least 400 vehicles (and may end up with 1000)

    DEFINITELY
    - You will find we have the LARGEST
Trade Area of ANY VW event
(in the World!) with everything you may want (or not) for your Transporter . PLUS a MASSIVE
    Vehicle Sales Area .

    BUSFEST BIG VW

BUSFEST ‬2013 ‬it will be the ‬20th YEAR we have been producing VW Transporter Festivals at the Malvern Showground.

So we will be doing something VERY BIG to mark that occasion (‬as we did previously with our ‬10th event)‬.
One of the (‬Many) ‬things that has made our events@ Malvern stand out (‬miles) ‬above any other event is the fact that we are very good at producing very ‬BIG Displays.

As well as giving the event a real boost it has got us noticed worldwide & ‬is one of the reasons that BUSFEST
is now the only truly International event for owners* & ‬enthusiasts of VW Transporters.

The Pictures & ‬banners we produced from our previous BIG
Displays (‬we have done ‬4 ‬of them so far) ‬are still a big talking point and attraction* (& ‬we still keep getting asked when we are going to do the next one)‬.

Well the more astute ones amongst you will know that we actually helped our sister event “‬The Berlin Bus Festival” ‬do their own BIG T3* (‬T25) ‬display last year. ‬Well that has wetted our appetite to go one better this year and do another Big Display in the UK.

As with the previous displays there needs to be a big build up to ensure it is successful so we started to take bookings at the last BUSFEST & ‬already have a good number of vans signed up to take part. ‬BUT we still need a whole lot more to be sure of completing the picture (‬and making it even more impressive than the last one!)

THE BUSFEST BIG VW WILL BE BUILT ON SUNDAY ‬8th SEPTEMBER ‬2013 ‬BETWEEN ‬08.00 & ‬12.00
    :mwave:

As with the previous ‬BIG Displays we will have a model of the ‬BIG VW and will be showing it off on our promo stand at the events we attend, (‬you will be able to book in at these event as well*)

We still have all the original material from all our previous displays so the promo and running of it should be a lot easier* (‬Might even be able to get the original Big Display Teams, ‬and some/many of the participants back together for a reunion – ‬Hint!)‬.

We also have the benefit of much better technology to do it this time (‬but will still probably end up with pegs & ‬string!)

Having done this one once before means also that we can improve greatly on the original design and hopefully get a lot more vehicles into it.
‬Our target is to produce a ‬4 ‬lane (‬instead of the original ‬3 ‬lane) ‬roundel BUT if we end up with a ‬5 ‬lane roundel the BUSFEST BIG VW will contain over ‬1000 ‬vans!

‬(THE DISPLAY WILL HAVE TO REMAIN IN PLACE UNTIL AT LEAST ‬14.00 ‬HRS FOR PHOTO SESSION)

Please note; In order for this ‬ Display display to work (and look correct ) it is only open to VW Transporters. BIG VW BOOKING FORM is on our website.

BUSFEST EVENING ENTERTAINMENT - FULL LISTING OF ACTS WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN NEXT UPDATE :beer_yum:

BUSFEST FEES FOR 2013 - REMAIN THE SAME AS LAST YEAR

Our BOOKING system will opens on 14th JANUARY 2013.

We will keep the ADULT Price at £35.00 Per Person.

The CAMPING UNIT Price will remain at £20 for a 7mx7m plot.

The DAY VISITOR price will remain at £15 per adult.

(And unlike most other events you will NOT be hit with ANY Booking Fees.)

  3. Who is going to this event? I certainly am, if I can only do one show a year, it HAS to be this one. I am applying to join the VW display on the Sunday too.

    Anyone coming to join me?

  4. A must for us also :chewie: :chewie:

  5. I'm more tempted by this than I have been in previous years, but I think I'll wait to see what the weather is doing, as a wet busfest isn't much fun (from past experience). Would be good to see another of the big displays again. It'll also depend upon how flush I'm feeling.

  6. BUSFEST NEWS - FEBRUARY 2013

JUST A REMINDER FOLKS THAT OUR BOOKING SYSTEM FOR CAMPING AT THIS YEARS BUSFEST IS NOW OPEN.

CAMPING space is filling up FAST. Please be aware that we only have a set number of camping spaces available.

BUSFEST - CALLING ALL CLUBS! (especially TLB!) :)

At this year’s BUSFEST we have got some VANTASTIC DISPLAYS lined up for you in the new CLUBS ZONE

BUT they will only be “Vantastic” if we can get a commitment from you good folks to take an active part in making them happen. [IMG]

    THE BUSFEST BUS PARK

This is a development on from the highly successful “SPLIT SCREEN ALLEY” display we had on the hard standing area between the Avon & Wye Halls at last year’s BUSFEST.
It is primarily aimed at getting Bus/Van CLUBS involved in promoting themselves and displaying the vehicles their owners have.
Clubs can have a display of vehicles and promote themselves in their own area on their “street” (Please note this is a display area only – no camping)

    This year we would like to get CLUBS & ALL of the different types of Transporter involved & will be having 5 STREETS in the BUS PARK;

     SPLIT SCREEN ALLEY

“BAY STREET” - 50 SHADES OF BAY

 “T25 MEWS”” will have lots of WEDGE VIEWS.

     “T4 AVENUE” will have T4’S GALORE.

     “T5 CLOSE” will have T5’s ALIVE

This display will be “ Fluid” & running all weekend (Friday Sat & Sun) we recognise that some of you will not want to commit your van all weekend so there will be flexibility.
Some of you will also want to take part in the Show & Shine on the Sunday. So other places may become available for other vans.

For those of you who want to (also) be part of the BIG VW on the Sunday) you can be in both.
We will reserve places in the BIG VW & you will be convoyed in when required (at 11.00 on the Sunday)

We have space for 20 display vehicles in each street. These will be allocated in blocks of 5 ( Initially to clubs) BUT if there is insufficient take up then individual van owners as well on a first come first served basis. It would be nice to have a good mix of early & late types in each street.
There will be pace in each street for a small clubs stand to promote your club. These stands should only be used for club promotion – not general trade.

Deadline for Clubs wishing to have display blocks in the BUSFEST BUS PARK will be JUNE 30th

We will also still be running our usual selection of “SPECIAL DISPLAYS” in the DISPLAY HALL and elsewhere on the site.

(More info on these in the next update)

BUSFEST - CERTAINLY, PROBABLY, UNDOUBTABLY, DEFINITELY - SIMPLY THE BEST

  7. I'm going to this too. Not sure about the display. Will prolly camp with the earlybay lot unless there is a latebay area.

  8. Is there going to be a Late Bay Camping Area?

    NatchoNatchoMan likes this.
  9. BUSFEST WEATHER.

What is the BUSFEST weather going to be like? ........................ [IMG]

…..........is one of the questions we get asked every year by people who leave it to the very last minute to book their BUSFEST tickets. [IMG]

Whilst we are good at most things, weather prediction can and is a bit hit and miss, (especially when we are many months away from the actual event .) [IMG]

This weekends deluge & snowstorms has re opened the debate on what shows will be postponed or cancelled (again) this year. [IMG]

The one thing you can be ABSOLUTELY SURE of is that BUSFEST WILL go ahead WHATEVER the Weather, as THE MALVERN SHOWGROUND is, (beyond Doubt)THE best Venue in the country for staging VW all weather events such as ours. [IMG]

Things have moved on a long way since we suffered our last bad weather event (way back in 2008 & even then that only effected the Friday of the event – The event recovered quickly & still went ahead through the weekend).

Since than there has been a MASSIVE investment programme at the show ground to improve drainage ALL over the Show ground (which includes the areas we use for Camping). This work has included putting in new & improving roads & surfaces & land drains throughout (and around) the show ground.

This programme is now almost complete. This year the last areas on the show ground with problems (which showed up in the Trade Area last year) have been dealt with. There is just one area on the show ground that could, in very extreme weather, get a bit soggy & that is used by our Syncro's (so it is not a problem ).

SO.................. the answer to the weather question is......................

    IT DOESN'T MATTER! [IMG]

    Whatever the weather you can be sure that;

You will be able to get on to & off the site. Plenty of hard standing & well drained areas

You will not have to trudge around in mud (or water). We have good roads and walkways and access on all areas of the site

You will have plenty of covered areas & buildings if you need to shelter from the rain (or find some shade – if it is the normal BUSFEST Weather ) .

You will find that the show ground has some of the best facilities in the whole country to make your stay with us as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Check out this link; http://www.threecounties.co.uk

We WILL be providing you with the best TRANSPORTER based TRADE, DISPLAYS and ENTERTAINMENT of any event.

Its a “No Brainer” really, just make sure you get your tickets booked before we run out of space or the bookings close at the end of JULY

(or you will be back in the …....... mud again ) [IMG]

  10. I went there for the day last year and the weather was beautiful. This year I'm taking the van and staying over. I posted my cheque and form off what seems like ages ago but I haven't had my tickets yet :(

  11. Just rang Busfes and apparently tickets don't get distributed until July - I'm a newbie so I didn't know that Doh!
However if there is a TLB camping area I'd like to join in. Be nice to meet some of you.

  12. Will be there with van and children! Wish me luck

  13. BUSFEST UPDATE - MAY 2013

  19. I haven't heard about the VW display either, I sent my form in months ago.

  20. Ok - we got the message

BUSFEST BIG VW - IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS.

We are starting to get a good number of entries coming in for this years BUSFEST BIG VW Display which will take place on Sunday 8th September.

Apart from having a good number of vans pre-booked, we must also have a good steady stream of vehicles arriving at the display field to be parked up in the display.

There will be a limit on the numbers we can actually get into the display in the times sales set. (~2 vans a minute are required to get the full BIG VW Picture that is a VERY tight schedule!)

We (you) will also have problems if everyone turns up at once (or not at all) or leave it too late to get into the display. To counter that we will be issuing time slots (08.00–09.00, 09.00-10.00, 10.00-11.00, 11.00-12.00) for vehicles to arrive at the display field. Obviously the early arrivals will be fitted into the middle or more intricate parts of the display.

We suggest that those of you camping pack up your vans early and then take it to the VW Field & park it in the display. Please note we can only take actual vans into the display BUT if you have (small) trailers we will have an area to unhitch and park Trailers in the display field.
You will still have access to your vehicles it while it is in the display. However there may be a time during the actual photography session that we would ask all persons on the display field to vacate the area (or actually relocate themselves become part of the display in a special area we may have in place)

    THESE ARE VERY IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR ALL PERSONS WHO HAVE BOOKED (OR WANT TO TAKE PART) IN THE BUSFEST BIG VW;

ALL PERSONS WHO HAVE ALREADY BOOKED (OR WISH TO TAKE PART IN THE BIG VW) MUST CONFIRM THEIR BOOKING (OR BOOK THEM SELVES IN) AS SOON AS POSSIBLE ON ARRIVAL AT THE SHOWGROUND, DURING FRIDAY OR SATURDAY AT THE BUSFEST INFORMATION CENTRE.(THIS IS TO GIVE US AN ACCURATE PICTURE OF HOW MANY VANS WE REALLY HAVE FOR THE DISPLAY AND TO ENSURE WE KNOW EXACTLY WHICH VANS ARE IN IT).

WHEN YOU CONFIRM YOUR BOOKING YOU WILL BE GIVEN A FULL SET OF INSTRUCTIONS AND A VEHICLE PASS TO GET YOU INTO THE DISPLAY FIELD.
YOU WILL ALSO BE GIVEN A TIME SLOT TO GET YOU VEHICLE TO THE DISPLAY FIELD. WE CAN (WITHIN REASON) GIVE YOU A CHOICE FOR TIME SLOTS BUT WE MUST ENSURE WE HAVE A CONTINUOUS STREAM OF VEHICLE ARRIVING AT THE DISPLAY.

PLEASE GIVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF TIME TO GET YOU VAN PACKED UP & MAKE FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS/DIRECTIONS TO THE DISPLAY FIELD.

CAMPING VHEICLES ON SITE WILL HEAD FOR THE SOUTH WEST CORNER (TOILET & VIEWING PLATFORM GATE) TO GAIN ENTRANCE TO THE DISPLAY FIELD. VEHICLES FROM THE NORTH CAMPS (AND DAY VISITOR ENTRIES) WILL ENTER VIA THE NORTH ENTRANCE TO THE FIELD.

REMEMBER YOU CAN STILL HAVE ACCESS TO YOUR VAN ONCE IT HAS BEEN PARKED UP IN THE DISPLAY

It is most important if you are (or are deciding to take part) that you commit to the time slot given AND follow the instructions given.

BUSFEST – KEEPING YOU IN THE FRAME BY MAKING YOU PART OF THE PICTURE!
