Bumper Finishing Caps - 3D Printed

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by varrenwisher, Jun 11, 2020.

  1. Hi

I've redesigned and 3D printed bumper finishing caps which stay on and do not split like the ones you can buy from various parts suppliers. The hex head recess has a taper to allow tight fitting.

Let me know your thoughts ?

Fronts look good. How long have they been on your bus? Won't the taper make them squidge off?

Rears should be dome headed coach bolts BTW.

  3. Thanks Zedders, the taper is 1mm and they haven't come off yet.

Its PETG hard plastic unlike the injection moulded rubbish the suppliers stock.

Ill look into the dome head rears.

    All feedback is welcome lol

  5. Any chance you could share the stl please? I may be able to reciprocate in the future, as I'm making a list of parts I need to find time to design for my bus.

  6. Nice. Am I right in thinking that the original bumper bolts were shaped so that the caps would clip over them?

  7. At the front, yes. As above, the rears were chrome coach bolts.

  8. I used coach bolts from Wilkinson for my rears. The little square shaft under the Dome is a perfect fit for the bumper and mounts, and the Dome head sits flush. Been on 5 years now, not rusting yet.

Bumper bolt caps that don’t split and actually stay on are a big bonus in my opinion.

  11. Thanks All, all noted i'll replace the rears. :)

  12. Kays Fasteners will sell you some nice stainless coach bolts.

Look great, well done for thinking about a problem and solving it with quality materials rather than the usual " German quality" rubbish

  14. Thanks Sproggy
