What a great thread you have some good skills and talent look forward to seeing it all finished I will watch with interest Dale
It's nice to know its a common thing to do then. Cheers outlaw, not sure my skills are as good as yours but it's getting there. Be good to see it with some colour finally.
Prep done, floor painted with chassis paint, rest ready for paint (whilst waiting for space in the garage I put the sound damping in): First coat of primer, bumble is no longer half primed. I flatted back the old primer and covered everything:
It was a bit of a worry as I wasn't sure the white would be right but I had bought it and was too late to turn back. Once on it looks really nice, slowly coming to the end of my resto. Considering the most I have ever done in the past is a little spanner work here and there this is a jump into the deep end and am quite chuffed that I've done everything myself. I dread to think what the cost has been though, the receipts just get stuffed into the folder now. Given up totalling it after it cruised past 5k (where the hell have I found the money??)
That's looking very nice. As far as money goes, I find budgeting £1000 for parts to re-assemble is about right.
I'm putting all the old stuff back on, I can't afford to put new shiny bits on. Anyway the paint will distract you from the old parts. White top, topcoat finished yesterday and cracking on with the lower half today! I'll post some more pictures later.
All the seals are new anyway from the build earlier on. All the chrome needs cleaning up but should be ok and the rear lights were newish too. It should be ok.
Compromise. She wanted yellow. zingy, bright yellow. I accepted yellow but chose mellow, the painter wins.
I have had suggested baking soda, lemon juice and cooking oil. I shall try both and report back. I guess thinners would be a no no on rubber?
Thinners will eat the rubber Nowt will touch 2k paint once its dried your only option is to abrade it off
