Check all the other pipe connections. If they've used jubilee clips all round exactly the same could be happening to your fuel lines....
Also, if I was you I'd want that fuel filter out of the engine bay, or at the very least on the non-pressurised side of the fuel pump.

  2. Thanks @Baysearcher and Silver, I'll get it sorted tomorrow and look at moving the fuel filter,
while I'm in the mood for fixing things, any tips on how to stop the throttle thing on the carb from sticking on the alternator? had the dynamo replaced and it's been catching ever since, was thinking about filing a bit of the alternator.

Can't help with the alternator question as I've not come across the problem on my bus.
Change out all those jubilee clips for proper fuel line clips; you've seen first hand the damage jubilees do to rubber hose. If you don't know how old the fuel line is, probably worth swapping it all out from the tank to the carbs with proper R9 rated hose. Then you can put the filter in above the gear box.

  4. Cheers I'll get down to alanhschofields tomorrow and get some proper bits, I think I had the fuel pipe replaced when I had some work done on it.

  5. Replaced the offending hose, it's really nice to have a van that doesn't cut out every time I dip the clutch now! not made a great difference to the brakes, too happy about a tickover to worry about that now, thanks all for the advice

  6. Hi
I am wondering on what your thoughts are on fitting servo to my 79 1.6 bay , it currently has no servo it this a big job to do ? And is it worth the effort.
    You view and opinions appreciated
    Cheers
    John

  7. Hi Tom, wondering which bit you mean as can't see it at all! cheers

  8. Neither can I! Long time ago, but it wasn't that anyway, ended up replacing the servo

  9. Got it now, it's the hose right at the back, you can spot it easier looking for the jubilee clip at the bottom

  10. You will either need a different shaped bracket/rod that clears the alternator or most people seem to grind or file a bit out of the alternator casing

  11. O.K Cheers for that.

  12. Kev Iv fitted a Subaru in a late bay and exactly the same has happened this evening brake gone hard and engine picks up when you apply the brake. Tried the pedal when engine is switched off then started the engine no different. Even disconnected the vac hose and pedal still hard.

My old alternator had a bit ground out and then JB weld put in because they went too far, to clear the PICT34-3 mechanism.

Pedal should be hard same as no servo with the vacuum hose disconnected . Idle will change if you dont block the hose off when you disconnect it, as it is an air leak unbalancing the air fuel mixture.

If the revs change as you brake, you have likely got a problem with the servo , as you apply the pedal it leaks flowing air through a leak from inside the servo into the pipe, rather than just pulling the big diaphragm back with vacuum.

If it was leaking and affecting idle all the time , its more likely a split hose.
