Yep its dead jim - must have fried the module so today I cleaned up this:- to this:- later I will fit it and see if I can get sparks...
So the points dizzy worked hurrah Fitted the rest of tin wear and did the can run in for 15mins at 2-3k rpm Did a basic tune up but it still needs a little work Uploading vid of engine running to u tube Need to drop oil and check for swarf - ran out of light today so will pick up tomorrow Very happy bunny tonight - just want to take for a spin now...
Thanks dude, its a massive weight off my mind to have got it running Time will tell if I did a good job :-D
Yay great news If thats a new fuel pump it would be a good idea to check the security of the pivot pin as they have been known to work loose over time
ok so not much to report... Dropped the oil and filtered and strained it - mostly very fine elements of silver / grey metal a few larger bit but small enough again that I am not too disturbed. Checked the tappets some tweaks here and there but mostly all good no change. Redid the points and timed the engine again. Then set up the carb as per bentley manual - which I think I got 90% right - probably have another go - need to adjust the over run. Now when I reconnect the dizzy vacuum tube it doesn't advance (or retard whatever) so it isn't sucking at idle which is good . Unblocked the brake servo pipe which promptly caused the engine to rev 100rpm more - I suspect that the brake servo diaphragm is leaky. Been learning the fine art of automotive electrickery still much seems like trickery but I have got most stuff working again. Fixed the indicators by replacing the relay - yay Tweaks to various light fitting coaxed them into life - so I have the full complement of full beam / dip, brake - even reverse lights (now I removed the strange wiring). Not convinced that the alternator is charging the battery - so I am going to check that out tomorrow - the generator light goes out tho - so maybe I am just being paranoid. Fitted horn - peep peep. Adjusted clutch took it for a quick spin woo hoo it moves and feels pretty perky The wing mirrors are pretty minging and one doesn't have enough thread - so I decided to splash out on some new ones which arrive tomorrow. Nothing apart from license plates between me and MOT time then Can't decide whether to stick the old ones on - just for the MOT or wait for the new ones.. Thinking pressed metal 70s font of course but should I go black & silver or white and yellow - the bus was built in dec 72 so I can have either...
Oooo on the cusp! I'm a few weeks behind you. I'd take for MOT without plates or the old ones balanced in the windows, it's bound to fail on something anyway, then you get the 10 working days to fix whatever silly thing it is and fit new plates.
One thing I did the other day but didn't mention was I took the clutch cable out to check the length as there wasn't much adjustment on it The length was "right" according to the book so I stuck some washers on the bowden tube and a nut before the wing nut for extra measure. That helped greatly and the clutch is nice and smooth the gear change is much better than it was before the resto (I changed all the bushes and the donut thing in the nose cone). [EDIT: I remembered the name of the donut thing - hockey stick ball] Fitted the new stainless steel wing mirrors expensive but worth it Then I spent sometime trying to make the half moon and other top bolt I bought from somewhere or other - but they were basically both too short so I went back to the heath robinson solution that was on there originally very peculiar Today I had a bit of a jolly in the bus with silent coat - think I got a bit carried away but I bought a massive pack of the stuff so why not Got some underlay too something to go under the ply floor - going to reuse the original stuff was all in surprisingly good nick Also I repainted the engine hatch and put a bit of silent coat on it too - couldn't help myself Booked the MOT its tomorrow!! not sure what time yet - I mentioned my license plate dilemma and my garag'ist said just double sided sticky tape them on and he will be fine with that for now. Nervous about tomorrow but pretty sure it ought to pass - need to put some air in the washer bottle before I go
One thing about this silent coat stuff - I reckon you only need like an eighth of what I used - it makes only subtle change to the tone of the panel When I fired the engine up (started up instantly I should add) instead of the whole bus resonating and deafening cacophony in the cab I could just hear the engine chugging happily in the back Which is a definite improvement worth it in my onion, I suspect when the floor and furniture are in the effect will be further enhanced - and my little girl won't be frightened of the noisy engine anymore which would be nice
Thanks It passed I am in shock!!! No advisories he was drooling over the paint job and said wow (in a good way) when he clocked the underside... Woot woot
