Do you think i can strengthen the bumper to bolt my tow ball to it ,only for my bike rack as it is now on a tow bar plate behind bumper but is bit bouncy.

  2. i looked into this Ken, and i came up with what i thought to be a cunning plan...have a look on ebay for Pendle bike racks for 4WDs....they do a bracket that bolts behind the tow ball, rather than on to it....with a bit of creative thinking, you could weld a plate across the two uprights and fit a spare wheel carrier (so the wheel faces inwards towards the engine lid)....the uprights can stay as they are or be chopped accordingly to fit one two or three bikes....having the wheel facing back would work as a counterweight, and as all the weight is low down close to the bumper, it would be pretty stable....you could even rig it so the tyre rests on the bmper.

the best thing about tis set-up is that the whole thing can be removed by pulling the R clip that holds the uprights in situ....better than one that folds flat on the floor IMO....

no this bolts on tight but the flex is on the plate where the tow ball bolts on to the bar as its a flat plate , i will try to get a pic of the plate on the tow bar

I have a tow ball mounting bike rack that doesn't wobble. It'll be far worse attached to the bumper.

no sorry still not like this i will get good pic in morning as it is a home made tow bar im sure,
the plate that is flexi is securing the ball to the bar i think if it was a box sextion and not angle iron it may be less flexi as it is not bouncing from the ball up hope this makes sense

Think yours is a different type of rack to mine, yours looks cantilevered staight back from the ball? Bound to be bouncing.

    Tit!

  12. Get rid of the plate, if it flexes it can't be a lot of good, there are adjustable height plates you could replace it with

  13. Not fecking surprised if that's all you've got.!!!!

You haven't been towing with that have you? If so please put up your routes in advance in future please so we can avoid where you drive!!!

That's not a tow bar, its a ball screwed to a weak and flimsy bumper!!
    :)
